* From the Madigan trial…

Madigan testifying to his efforts to build consensus in state government. He says of state legislators, "either make them happy or don't make them not-happy."

That’s pretty much it.

  1. If you have been in a leadership position, especially in a public position you will enjoy that quote.

  2. . . . . .and then throw them under the bus later.

    Tim Mapes missed that memo as quite possibly the Dem legislators disdained him as much as GOP electeds.

    Madigan’s ultimate undoing is that he stayed too long as both the world and his Caucus had passed him by. And his trust in Fredo McClain.

  3. I think he plagiarized Conan The Barbarian there, but he left out the part about the lamentations of the women.

    MJM is no wise sage - it is sort of funny hearing him say that about himself - when it seems to me that his favorite consensus-building tool was campaign cash - or the lack thereof.

  5. Reminds me of Leo Durocher:

    The secret to being a good manager is to keep the guys who don’t like you away from the guys who are undecided.

  7. The final question from prosecutors featured the longest serving House Speaker in America accepting the prosecutorial premise that he wanted to hide the Andrade payments from ILGA and then admitting he thought Jay Doherty was the best vehicle to do so.

    Coupled with the reported admission he was aware Solis was trying to steer business in exchange for the state board position, and I think we’re done here.

    It’s simply incredible we will have so much of the Illinois legislative process and political games during the 20th and early 21st centuries in federal court records.

    Now do the impasse that killed people and decimated the social safety net!
