IEMA, DoIT directors depart

* Press release…

Today, Governor JB Pritzker announced the departure of two agency directors: Alicia Tate-Nadeau of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS), as well as Sanjay Gupta of the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT). Both Director Tate-Nadeau and Secretary Gupta will depart during the month of March.

Alicia Tate-Nadeau was appointed by Governor JB Pritzker in 2019 to serve as the Director of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS) and Illinois Homeland Security Advisor (HSA). Tate-Nadeau’s retirement follows decades of experience in national security, emergency management, and public safety. Prior to joining the Pritzker administration, she spent more than three decades with the Illinois National Guard (IL-NG). As the first female general in Illinois history, she completed her military service as the Assistant Adjutant General for the IL-NG. Tate-Nadeau successfully led the State of Illinois through the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the influx of buses with recently arrived asylum-seekers during 2023-2024.

“With our administration from the very beginning, Director Tate-Nadeau has served the State of Illinois with dedication and pride,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “Today, we congratulate her on a successful career and thank her for her leadership at IEMA over the past six years—which will positively impact employees and Illinoisans for years to come.”

Adnan Khayyat will serve as IEMA-OHS’ Interim Director beginning on April 1, 2025. He has served at IEMA-OHS for over 26 years, most recently as the agency’s Acting Chief of Staff.

Sanjay Gupta was appointed as the Secretary of DoIT in 2023, after a long career as a national IT leader with private and public sector experience. Before serving as DoIT Secretary, Gupta the Chief Information Officer and Chief Technology Officer roles for the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) respectively, spent nearly 20 years in management and consulting for global technology organizations, and served as a board member of the federal Technology Modernization Fund. Under Gupta’s leadership, DoIT advanced many key initiatives: improved fiscal health and accountability, developed meaningful client agency relationships and procurement capacities, and invested in the DoIT workforce.

“I want to personally thank Secretary Gupta for his commitment to serving the State of Illinois,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “His expertise expanded DoIT’s impact across technology and innovation sectors and improved our collaboration with Illinois client agencies. I’m grateful for his work and wish him all the best in his next endeavors.”

Brandon Ragle will serve as DoIT’s interim Secretary beginning on March 21, 2025. He has served DoIT for over eight years, most recently as Deputy Secretary.
