Offhand election comment: I don’t recall seeing so many uncontested races on a ballot as this year. In fact, there were 3-4 races were NOBODY was on the ballot, just a write-in. I wanted to write my name in for one of them but took pity on whoever in the clerk’s office has to tally these records.

Hoping that the McLean County sales tax for schools referendum passes today.

One of the folks behind a private right-wing Christian school that just started up has made a big stink about the county’s public schools being in favor of the sales tax - duh they had to have their school boards vote in favor of it to even get the question on the ballot - and after striking out with ISBE and others on this has now leaned on the Republican sheriff to investigate the school boards for being in favor of a referendum to get more $ for schools. What a waste of resources.

Always thankful for early voting being an easy thing in Illinois. Love not having to worry about voting on election day itself before, during, or after work, albeit I didn’t get around to early voting this time until this very past weekend.

I get concerns over last-minute “October” surprises for people not wanting to vote too early, but I honestly hope to never have to vote on election day itself again.

Voted. Sadly, very few contested races. This surprises me since are world is in utter chaos. We can and need to do better. There is too much at stake. I pray fear and retaliation is not the reason folks aren’t stepping up to run.

It seems completely appropriate in today’s world that Election Day falls on April Fools Day.

Off to vote in about an hour. I’m an old school election day voter.

Batman might be right on automatic VBM invitations favoring Dems.

In addition, we’ve seen substantially more in-person turnout by voters with high Dem scores, for early voting in the NW suburbs.

We shall see if it’s just an early blue wave and gets swamped by Election Day GOP turnout.

Sloooow Election Day in Sangamon County at my poll.
Only 22 voters since we opened. It’s 9:45 now.

Alderman Andre Vasquez (40th) must be dissatisfied with Mayor Brandon Johnson. His ward organization is putting together a community meeting at the Budlong Woods Library to discuss the need for the City of Chicago to adopt a charter. Vasquez claims Chicago is the sole municipality in Illinois currently operating without a charter which would define the powers of its municipal officers and could redefine the size of the City Council.

In my area of west central IL, it’s all about school boards today. There are some unhappy folks. Unpaid position but very, very important to some of these more rural districts.

The answer might be obvious, but why is Office of the Governor - not the AG - the Illinois plaintiff in the suit against HHS?

Why can’t Local Elections and Primary Election Days also become state employee and school holidays?

I’m good with eliminating however you want to celebrate the second Monday of October as a holiday and replacing it with Local Election Day. It will guarantee at least one, sometimes two, election days off each year.
