  1. Cardinals play four game series in Milwaukee, June 12-15, and I am thinking of making a weekend of it.

  2. Foggy day in McLean County.

    Cubs conveniently have today off, so will take advantage and watch some college hockey tonight to see who advances to the men’s national championship game this weekend (sure would be nice if a certain flagship state school got off their butts and started men’s and women’s varsity hockey programs already!).

  3. In the hectic pace of this week in the Capitol, I witnessed a small but powerful moment of human relationships. It also showed me that I need to be better. One of the most respected and powerful lobbyists here in the midst of the chaos stopped to not just greet by name but hug one of our janitors. I thought look at this black janitor with a strong enough relationship with this former Senator that they greeted each other by name, had a brief chat and obviously both men genuinely being in touch with each other. I bet most of us who work here don’t know our janitors but here was this janitor hugging one of the most successful lobbyists here. Great commentary on both of their characters. And a reminder to me to do better.

  5. It’s April 10, 2025.

    On Dec. 8, 2024, Dick Durbin said he would announce his career plans “after the first of the year.”

    Time’s up.

    Where’s Dick Durbin’s retirement press release?

  6. Chilly, Foggy and a little mist. Perfect Spring Day. Good day for Masters on TV, GOPies whining about their dopey remap suit and maybe another OpEd from Bob Kustra about ethics and MSI scam.

  7. Thanks for sharing, Nice. We must become the people we wish our children to be.

    Party leaders and members need to relearn that instead of competing, the political process is about serving each other, and thereby serving all.

    Our children (at least those I serve in college) have rightfully given up hope in the current political milieu. The do not trust politicians writ-large, and do not trust media portrayals of politics.

    If politicians are seen to be elders of our state, it is time for politicians to grow up anew, and act like elders. It is their children they serve, not platitudes and platforms.

  8. So far I am 0-2 receiving a response from Dick Durbin’s comms team and MBJ’s staff. Is is part of the job to acknowledge constituents’ concerns?

  9. =Where’s Dick Durbin’s retirement press release?=

    Most likely he will announce his 2026 plans live with his friend Sam Madonia some morning on AM Springfield.
