  1. Rich Miller. We need someone with a bite-me attitude in DC

Comment by very old soil Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 12:45 pm

  2. Wait a minute…so using these words means he’s not serious?!…preparing, consider, potential, tentative, look in to, possibility, floating and potential (again). In the next 12-24 months?!

Comment by Lol Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 12:48 pm

  3. I’m going to keep everyone waiting while my indecisive decision making is explored to see if I want to decide something some time in the future. Maybe. I don’t know. Perhaps.

Comment by Huh? Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 12:48 pm

  4. Barack Obama. He still owes us 2 years.

Comment by hisgirlfriday Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 12:49 pm

  5. Katherine Abughazaleh. It gives her a bigger stage - and she probably doesn’t realize she’s too young to serve in the Senate. We could then run our primary in the 9th District in peace, without an outsider grifter candidate.

Comment by Keyrock Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 12:50 pm

  6. Barack Obama never finished his first U.S. Senate term, he’s probably got some gas left in the tank…

Comment by StarLineChicago Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 12:51 pm

  7. I have never seen such powerful ambivalence, such majestic uncertainty, and such amazing indecision as exhibited by these potential candidates. Both Rich and Tom are leading by indecision here.

Comment by thisjustinagain Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 12:52 pm

  8. There’s only one man who can save us….Alan Keyes!

Comment by OurMagician Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 12:53 pm

  9. What’s Alan Keyes up to these days?

Comment by scurvydog Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 12:53 pm

  10. Pat Quinn. Congress’s lawn is overgrown.

Comment by DS Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 12:53 pm

  11. Senator Palpatine from Naboo. Experience with regime change.

Comment by Res Melius Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 12:58 pm

  12. I am kind off surprised that more people are not talking about Blagojevich as the Republican nominee. He would surely have Trump’s endorsement, he is still great at media interviews, and he would no doubt center his strategy on appealing to Black voters as a wrongly-convicted man who spent time in prison. It is concievable he could get over 20% in Cook County, and as long as downstate Trump voters are with him - and why wouldn’t they be - he has a better chance than LaHood.

Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:02 pm

  13. Jim Oberweis. Nobody’s more experienced than Jim is (at losing)!

Comment by Benjamin Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:03 pm

  14. Followin’ today’s announcement from outgoin’ Sen. Durbin, I’m preparin’ to have conversations considerin’ the potential formation of tentatively explorin’ and creatin’ a committee lookin’ in to the possibility of floatin’ my candidacy.

    - Bruce Rauner

    Comment by Aaron B Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:03 pm

  15. Roland Burris he has some experience and still has space on his mausoleum

Comment by DuPage Saint Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:05 pm

  16. I think this post is Rich’s way of starting a DRAFT RICH MILLER NOW! Campaign.

  17. ===starting a DRAFT RICH MILLER NOW! Campaign===

    [Insert Shermanesque statement here]

Comment by Rich Miller Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:08 pm

  18. Darren Bailey vs. Tom DeVore. I just think that would be good good fun.

Comment by JS Mill Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:09 pm

  19. Anthony Robert Martin Trigona. I still remember the commercial to this day.

Comment by Stones Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:13 pm

  20. No love for Tiffany Henyard?

Comment by curtis Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:17 pm

  21. Mayor Johnson should give it a look. It’s an easier job than Mayor and it’ll get him out of Chicago a year before the voters kick him out of the 5th floor. He’s got as good a shot at the Senate as he does with re-election.

    Comment by 47th Ward Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:23 pm

  22. Jim Oberweis

He is tan, rested, and ready

Comment by OneMan Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:25 pm

  23. 12-24 months will put him after the primary to after the general.
While waiting on the Jury today Emil Jones III submitted paperwork to form an exploratory committee. In a statement issued from the courthouse lobby “If my dad can be Barack’s godfather then being my Dad should be enough to win it for me! … now who’s buying dinner?”

Comment by Neef Jr. Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:25 pm

  24. Jeanne Ives needs something to keep her busy. Suburban woman with statewide race experience. Another losing candidate is just what the GOP deserves.

Comment by Stephenson County Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:25 pm

  25. YDD - that is both interesting and scary

Comment by Soccermom Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:26 pm

  26. Todd Ricketts

“It’s my turn to do something, isn’t it, Dad?”

Comment by Save Ferris Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:30 pm

  27. Jack Ryan, Boy Scout.

Comment by Phineas Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:32 pm

  28. Brandon Johnson- he would do a lot less damage in DC.

Comment by Juice Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:33 pm

  29. I can think of no more qualified candidate that Supermayor and soon to be Supersenator Tiffany Henyard.

Comment by Just Another Anon Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:35 pm

  30. >We need someone with a bite-me attitude in DC

    …Draft Oscar Miller?

Comment by Just Another Anon Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:36 pm

  31. ===Oscar===

    He’s a lover, not a biter.

Comment by Rich Miller Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:38 pm

  32. Let’s see a Bruce Rayner versus Michael Madigan matchup.

After all, they both have name recognition and can find the necessary big buck donors.

In the alternative, Oberweis versus Quinn.

Just think of the income boost for the media in either of those cases.

Comment by RNUG Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:40 pm

  33. Aaron Schock, ’cause oblivion is, y’know, boring.

Comment by Streator Curmudgeon Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:42 pm

  34. ===he would do a lot less damage in DC===

We used to call that “exporting our problem to DC”

Comment by Rich Miller Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:42 pm

  35. RE Blago … I can see the slogan now …

Want to make sure your next Senator brings home the cash for Illinois? Elect Blago. He’s a professional, with the record to prove it.

Comment by RNUG Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:45 pm

  36. In today’s Illinois Playbook, the Politico reporter seems to have missed the joke, writing that Demmer “posted that he is having conversations about ‘the potential formation of a tentative exploratory committee.’” Perhaps confirming with Demmer beforehand would have been a good idea.

    Comment by 88bucks Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:47 pm

  37. ===Todd Ricketts===

Anything by brother Pete (R-NE) can do, I can do better. Self-financing would make it a more competitive race for Republicans.

Regarding the Rickett’s family, I’m surprised Laura Ricketts isn’t talked about more for Governor or US Senator for the Democrats. No snark.

Comment by JSI Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:49 pm

  39. Hunter S. Thompson (yes, I know he’s not around anymore)

Or really any other representative from the Freak Power party.

My favorite part of how he played the game of politics in Aspen…

“Thompson promised to fire the majority of the conservative county officials and bureaucrats, and shaved his head bald, thereby referring to the crew-cut, ex-army, Republican incumbent as “My long-haired opponent.”

Comment by TheInvisibleMan Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:50 pm

  40. If we don’t have a Blago vs. Rahm matchup, what are we even doing?

Comment by Guy Probably Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:50 pm

  41. Wait, this is the statement that Politico used to float Demmer’s name this morning…jee wiz.

Comment by NIU Grad Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:50 pm

  42. Any of the Wheeling Township Republicans can run, they are good at ignoring the law and losing. :)

    Comment by Rahm's Parking Meter Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:56 pm

  43. He’s just fittin to get ready….

Comment by Nope. Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 1:59 pm

  44. What is even funnier is that Politico reported this as if it was not a joke.

Comment by Remember the Alamo II Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 2:04 pm

  45. Is Ann Stava-Murray not running?

Comment by Wilson Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 2:07 pm

  46. We need a senator with the most experience, imagine one who has served at the local, state and federal level. He then took time in the private sector after being hunted down by the deep state.

Ladies and gentleman, it is time to Schock the system.

Comment by kj Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 2:12 pm

  47. Well snark aside I say Isabel Miller, the problem is they would have no way of dealing with someone able to be sum of things. Imagine she would put out a press release each day with details of what is actually going on. Concise pointed work of how things are shaping up in the senate. The rest of the senate would be playing catch up just to stay miles behind daily.

Comment by clec dcn Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 2:14 pm

  48. Jan Schakowsky… she’s finally old and experienced enough to become a Senator.

Comment by TKMH Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 2:17 pm

  49. I think the moment has finally arrived for Scott Lee Cohen*

    * Mainly because no one remembers who he is

Comment by Dance Band on the Titanic Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 2:32 pm

  50. How is everyone missing the obvious choice, Dick Bigger Jr.?

The ads would be amazing and he’s the only conceivable Democratic candidate that could carry every single county.

Comment by Excitable Boy Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 2:34 pm

  51. Mike Madigan. He promises not to use the Signal messaging app.

Comment by Blue Dog Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 2:34 pm

  52. Tom Skilling. Book it, done.

Comment by Give Us Barrabbas Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 2:35 pm

  53. Chris Lauzen CPA…

“At this point, I seem rational for the Illinois GOP”

    or

    Jerry Reisndorf

“Let’s run the state like my baseball team”

Comment by OneMan Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 2:35 pm

  54. Eric Trump — for he so embodies the values and the beliefs we hold dear in Illinois.

    ===Scott Lee Cohen===

You shouldn’t joke about things like that.

Comment by Candy Dogood Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 2:35 pm

  55. Larry Disparti of Disparti Law Group. Why? Because #LarryWins

Comment by System Reboot Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 3:10 pm

  56. Peter Francis Geraci? Anyone?

    Comment by Rahm's Parking Meter Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 3:12 pm

  57. ===* Mainly because no one remembers who he is===

I do. That election polling place was directly across the street (Sangamon County), and I “cleaned up” the Ricky Hendon signs - see them every day. In my garage until next Tuesday when the junk haulers move.

Comment by Loop Lady Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 3:35 pm

  60. Obviously: Rod Blagojevich. He has won multiple statewide races, has direct (brief) working experience with POTUS, and the entire world knows how valuable he thinks senate seats are worth, and I’m thinking he is available. Case closed. Blago ‘26

Comment by Vote Quimby Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 3:35 pm

  61. Palatine Township Highway Commissioner Aaron Del Mar is ready to begin posing for selfies from the Rotunda of the Capitol.

Comment by Yowsa! Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 3:38 pm

  62. This could be Jim Durkin’s moment.

    Comment by 47th Ward Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 3:47 pm

  63. Brandon Johnson. I can already hear the campaign ads: “Nobody has done more with less in less time than me. I’ve built a better Chicago in just two years. And if you check the facts and disagree with me, then I’ll just boot you out of the room.”

    Comment by Just a guy Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 4:00 pm

  64. Are there no available LaRouchies?

Comment by old guy Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 4:09 pm

  65. A Certain Politico Reporter: Because we’re in a post-fact (and I guess post-humor) world.

Comment by JoeMaddon Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 4:37 pm

  66. I don’t care as long as his name is Darren or Darin or I possibly accept a Darrell…just for the alliteration with deeply dumb.

    Comment by Dotnonymous x Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 6:05 pm

  67. ==I possibly accept a Darrell==

    Or his other brother Darrell?

Comment by Dave Dahl Thursday, Apr 24, 25 @ 7:00 pm

  68. I meant to say I could accept a Darrell…of course his other brother Darrell will do…Bob Newhart’s writers had to really bust out laughing when they came up with that bit, eh?…Dave and I are probably the only ones old enough to get the reference?
