Emma Shafer was also a member of staff for the House at one point.
The vileness of what took place yesterday cannot be overstated.

1976 was Dylan at his vocal peak (which is clearly relative). Pretty sure that version was released on his Hard Rain album, which has a bunch of raucus arrangements

Senator- yes, that video is from the concert in Ft. Collins Colorado that resulted in a TV special and subsequent album (with a few cuts recorded elsewhere).
Far from my favorite Dylan album, but it was cool to see him on TV. With ubiquitous video these days it’s hard to remember that we had very little visual representation of the music artists we listened to all the time.

Fantastic song. I got into Bob Dylan my freshman year of high school, and every time I hear about this song, I think of a camping trip I took with friends around that time that stormed the entire weekend.

We’ve got a Chicago Pope!

Is Leo XIV a Cubs or a Sox fan? The world demands answers.

TJ — possibly Cardinals?

Regarding the new Pope: “The Eucharist will now be served in Deep Dish” - best joke I’ve heard so far.
Comment by Former ILSIP Thursday, May 8, 25 @ 12:53 pm
yinn - careful, don’t want to go down as Leo XIV’s first excommunication.

===best joke I’ve heard so far===
From a pal: “I hope his first decree is no ketchup on hot dogs”

Chicago got a pope elected before the Bears had a 4000-yard passer.

Wikipedia tells us that he is a Southsider:
Robert Francis Prevost was born in Chicago on 14 September 1955, the son of Louis Marius Prevost and Mildred Martínez. His father, who was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and school administrator, was of French and Italian descent, and his mother of Spanish descent. As a child, Prevost served as an altar boy at St. Mary of the Assumption Church on the far South Side of Chicago. He completed his secondary studies at the minor seminary of the Order of St. Augustine in 1973. Prevost earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics at Villanova University in 1977.

===best joke I’ve heard so far===
From a popular ESPN football reporter: The New Pope says he’s from Chicago but he’s *actually* from Naperville.
Comment by Treefiddy Thursday, May 8, 25 @ 1:13 pm
Not the first Catholic from Chicago to be on a mission from God. Just gotta get the Popemobile onto Lower Wacker.
Comment by Leap Day William Thursday, May 8, 25 @ 1:17 pm
literally the first question my daughter had when we found out was-what high school did he go to.

Turns out, he’s from Dolton.

It’s a good thing he’s not a Sox fan because I’m unsure all the power of the Lord could redeem that team anytime soon.
Comment by ZC Thursday, May 8, 25 @ 1:47 pm
Leo’s a Cubs fan.
Remember, the pope is infallible.
Comment by TJ Thursday, May 8, 25 @ 2:03 pm
Great the bar for being a successful guy from Dolton just got raised a bit.
Too bad Tiffany isn’t mayor anymore would have looked forward to seeing pictures of her and the pope all over town.
St Mary’s where he went is closed (might even be torn down) if it is still standing wonder if the Chicago Archdiocese will fix it up.
Comment by OneMan Thursday, May 8, 25 @ 2:21 pm
As I read it, he could be deported if he tried to come to the US. His name does not match his birth certificate, can’t show a home address or anything. Probably gets a Vatican passport but then gets also deported because not a citizen. Better not try to do any work here, would violate his visa.

Some good ones I’ve seen on the socials today:
-Pope Leo Malnati XIV
-”Beef be with you. And also au jus”
-Chicago Pope - A Dick Wolf production.

=Too bad Tiffany isn’t mayor anymore would have looked forward to seeing pictures of her and the pope all over town.=
I wouldn’t be surprised if she doctors an AI photo for her FB page and claims “I met the future Pope when I was 12.”
Comment by Leatherneck Thursday, May 8, 25 @ 3:25 pm
What is going on in the Stratton today? I have received 3 sets of calls, texts and emails from Capitol Police today alone regarding all clears for the building. But interestingly, nothing on what prompted any of the “evacuations.”

==literally the first question my daughter had when we found out was-what high school did he go to.==
Wouldn’t that suggest he’s from St. Louis? I think the Chicago question is usually which parish
