  1. Rodney Crowell’s writing + Willie and Emmy’s singing = a fantastic start to this day. Thanks, Rich!

  2. I wonder if Big Jim and Jayne saw “Honeysuckle Rose” on a date night back in ‘80. A few hours’ relaxing break from the gubernatorial grind plus being with all the other theatergoers.

  3. On an unrelated note, anyone know what is going on regarding the ongoing renovation of the older historic (possibly Lincoln-era) homes by O’Shea builders near the complex? On the southeast corner of College and Cook streets. Who will be using or leasing those buildings after the renovations are completed? All the Sangamon County Recorder’s owner search shows for the buildings are United Community Bank as the owner or trustee (one of the two). Will the other older homes and buildings on the rest of that block eventually be renovated–including Lumsden insurance and the “Discovery Club” (a meeting hall for various AA and other 12-step group meetings)?

  6. Finally achieved my dream of visiting and documenting every one of our 102 counties.

  8. I hoping this is considered Illinois-centric. We just picked up our Beagle rescue dog last night. For anyone who wants a beagle, I can recommend Midwest BREW (beagle rescue something something). We only had to drive to Arlington Heights to pick her up from a foster family. Much happiness.

  9. Good job, 32nd Ward RV. We’ve adopted 4 rescues since 2020. I wish we had done so years before, they’ve been great dogs.

  10. @32nd Congrats on the pup, and thanks for choosing a rescue!

  11. @Proud Papa–congrats on making all 102 counties [exclamation point] That has sounded like a neat Illinois project.

@32nd–congrats on the new family member [exclamation point] Midwest BREW is a great organization. If you haven’t been to their annual Beaglefest in Dwight, I highly recommend it (late September this year). A great fundraiser and adoption event with Beagles (other breeds are also allowed) running around everywhere. A great day all around, even for those who don’t currently have a Beagle or aren’t currently planning to adopt.

  12. I know this year is uncertain due to federal cuts, but as a longtime state employee I will say that I wish the General Assembly could remember the immortal words of Pink Floyd, “If you don’t eat your meat, you can’t have any pudding.” As in, work on and pass the Budget first (the Meat), then the other legislation (the Pudding) needs to wait for afterwards.
