It is definitely a ‘crazy time’

* Texts from Rep. Marcus Evans (D-Chicago)…

My license plates were stolen off my car at O’Hare Airport main garage!!!

Crazy time to be a State Rep.

Rep. Evans said his car was parked in the main terminal garage “by a busy entrance.”

  1. Doesn’t seem like there was damage to the car, otherwise?

So was this some opportunist thinking “Hey it’d be really cool to have state legislator license plates” or was this more a targeted “I want to mess with a random politician (assuming they don’t recognize the specific car)”.

  2. Perrid, the real danger is if someone uses those plates to lull a victim into complacency.

  3. There are license plate collectors.

I once had an offer to buy one of my old ones.

  4. Whatever happened to the proposal to allow people to buy old style license plates? I thought that was a cool idea

  5. Saint —— At first glance, I thought you meant Old Style rather than old style, and I was wondering where I’d been during this debate (banned exclamation point).

  6. I’ve always found the Rep license plates so unbelievably pretentious and cringeworthy. I know they provide some actual merit but man is it pretty dang self-important to me.

  7. Linus those Old Style plates are given out for DUI s. /s

  8. To Rich’s point about the plates being used to impersonate an elected official - maybe having special legislator plates isn’t such a great idea. Hang a tag from the rear view mirror if there are times an elected needs their car identified.

  9. This can be particularly problematic in light of this past weekend’s violence in Minnesota. Someone can lure an unsuspecting legislator into a dangerous situation utilizing Leader Evans’s plates.

  10. As a side note, I received a new set of license plates from the SOS’s office last week, and they were wrapped in clear plastic. A label obscured the middle of the number, but I thought for security purposes, an opaque wrapper would have been better.

As to the post, a person could do all kinds of mischief with those plates.
