Good morning!

Posted in:

* I tweaked my mom’s meatloaf recipe just a little bit yesterday and then added fresh sweet corn to the gravy. Man, it was good…

* Those are my own homegrown tomatoes, by the way

All winter without ‘em’s a culinary bummer

Weekend plans?

And a good one. Good binder, tastes great.

  20. 1. Mom’s meatloaf: Bread crumbs and egg added as a binder. Those peas look kinda pale, but I’m all in.
    2. Weekend: Thinking about projects (like whether one should just be cancelled) and housekeeping. Yeah, it’s a show-stopper weekend here.

  21. === Those peas look kinda pale===

It’s a taste thing for me. I have always preferred canned peas to fresh or frozen, preferably LeSeurer.

  23. Over the years I have noticed I share the same musical interests as Rich and now I see we share the same longing for can peas over frozen peas.

This weekend is the Elnora Guitar Festival at Krannert.

  24. The garden provides!

Over the past week, we made large batches of salsa and bruschetta topping (OMG, the tomatoes, hot peppers, garlic…). Over the weekend, we’ll be canning tomatoes and, time permitting, collecting signatures on petitions.

  26. Cripes that looks like 50 dollars of ground beef there. lol

Comment by Honeybear Friday, Sep 5, 25 @ 2:34 pm

  27. I made meatloaf yesterday, too. Love using oats, as my mom and gran did. But a couple years ago, I discovered how bread crumbs can lighten up a loaf (as I’m sure the meatball makers already know). Now I use crumbs as well as oats, the results always delicious even as I still experiment with texture via proportions of each.

p.s. I love peas both canned and fresh, but they are wholly different animals of the veg world, and I would never compare the two.

  28. ==Cripes that looks like 50 dollars of ground beef there==

That reminds me, during the Great Recession I participated in an informal contest to see how big a legit meatloaf could be made with the standard amount of 1 lb of ground beef. I don’t quite remember if anyone succeeded in more than doubling the weight, but I do know that everybody won.
