  1. Sabotaging Obama as much as possible through my peerlessly logical punditry. Why is no one listening?!

  2. I have invested a couple hundred dollars in the Obama campaign and now they call me consistenetly and ask me to spend every weekend in Indiana - which is not going to happen… I am not trying to sound like an elitist but spending my weekends in Indiana is just not something that I am up to…

Comment by HoBoSkillet Tuesday, Oct 21, 08 @ 10:27 am

  3. No, I’ll just put up a yard sign once I figure out who I’m voting for for prez. Although, my kids won’t let me put up anything but Obama. High school, junior high and elementary school, they and all their friends are nuts for him. Are all the kids like that?

  6. I’ve done a lot of calling and emailing to get friends, colleagues and relations to donate, volunteer, etc. for Barack. We hosted a couple of debate parties. I’ll be in Indiana a couple of times including election day.

  7. At this point
I know McCain won’t win IL, my COngressperson should win and my local race has me so disgusted, I don’t care who wins. So I am sitting this one out unless you count randsom discussions as volunteering.

Comment by Wumpus Tuesday, Oct 21, 08 @ 10:37 am

  8. The circumstances of life, being what they are, have precluded me from donating anything beyond a little money, which I actually have done more this cycle than ever before. I’m also sporting an Obama sign in my window.

  9. I am working every waking, off-duty hour to protect our treasured Illinois constitution out of the hands of those who want to decertify unions, force abortions on everyone, mandate gay marriage, rob our pensions and make hunting illegal ;-)
In reality I have given Obama a couple hundred bucks, made a few phone calls and walked a few precincts for a local race. All in all maybe two hours a week, although I will probably walk both upcoming weekends.

  10. The Obama campaign calls me at work asking me to go to Indiana on his behalf. The only way they have my work number is from me calling to get an appointment with a staffer in DC for a rather large business organization about a year ago. Every other memeber of the Illinois delegation I contacted met with us or we met with a staffer. The Obama camp drove me to their campaign web site. I pointed out to them that is illegal. They blamed it on young inexperienced staffers. They made me jump through a million hoops and NEVER returned one of the 5-6 calls I made. Needless to say, we never got a meeting with anyone from his office.

I’m still voting for the guy but I’m not going to walk the streets of Indiana!

  12. Working for Obama in Indiana. A couple hours every few weeks.

  13. Canvassing in Illinois! Preparing a mailing to my precinct. Putting up signs, walking in parades, writing letters, attending meetings, maintaining a web site. Recruiting more helpers. All for the Dems! And more…

    Go Barack! Go Dems!

I’ve become a fanatic! I may need an intervention.

  14. Did a little voter registration in Evanston and Rogers Park that would benefit the Democratic Party - much less than ususal because it wasn’t a high priority this year.

Helping Daniel Biss in his campaign against 12 year incumbent, Republican Elizabeth Coulson. An upset is a distinct possbility, given Biss’s hard work, and the pending Obama tsunami in Illinois. Probably spending 12 - 15 hours per week the last two weeks before the election working on his behalf.

Returning to Cedar Rapids, Iowa November 1-4 to GOTV for our favorite son, as a means of contributing to his landslide victory.

  15. working for Aurora (outing Mulligan) - I like Aurora - putting in just a few hours per week - going full steam on election day -

  16. The most I’ve done was attend an Obama rally out of state way before he won a primary. I can’t wait for the 2010 gubernatorial campaign to start in earnest however. I’d like to volunteer then. Of course that’s not answering the question.

    I’m not volunteering now.

Comment by Levois Tuesday, Oct 21, 08 @ 11:14 am

  17. I have been walking door to door for my own campaign. Two hours on Saturday afternoon and two hours on sunday afternoon.

  18. I’ll volunteer my votes. That’s all any candidate has ever gotten or will ever get from me.

  19. ===Ive become a fanatic…I may need an intervention===

If your guy gets in, don’t worry. You’ll be informed what’s good for you (even if it’s not.) And what to do to rectify your character, and bring it more in line with Dear Leader’s. Reeducation through labor?

  20. Anon24,

Come on, lighten up, the question of the day is asked in earnest, we don’t really need the sarcasm.

  21. Also, since Obama’s wrapped up here, I’ve had a good time helping Dan Seals out in the suburbs and donated to Al Franken in my birth state of Minnesota (THAT should be popular around these parts, lol).

Comment by WonderBoy Tuesday, Oct 21, 08 @ 11:37 am

  22. Neither of the 2 major parties has anything but themselves and their power in their best interests; any benefit to the people in general is purely accidental. So no volunteering or donations. If the Greens weren’t so goofy on some issues I’d consider a contribution; they seem way more principled than the big 2. I will vote for the lesser of 2 evils in every race in November.

  23. Anon 24: That differs from the the other side in what way? :P

  24. Primarily putting up signs for Kirk for Congress and other candidates. (Those McCain/Palin signs are still going fast). As a Township Chairman, I need to push all candidates, but the top of the ticket is where most voters seem to be focused.

  25. Yard Signs and a couple of local fundraisers. There is no need for me to waste any energy on the outcome of the Presidential election in Illinois. The outcome was predestined.

  26. I have two yard signs and a bumper sticker on my car.

Have you actually read the party’s platform? While I do think that is a IMPRESSION that Greens are “goofy” on some issues, I think that the reality is far less so.

Comment by Squideshi Tuesday, Oct 21, 08 @ 1:34 pm

  29. And I convinced my wife to put bumper stickers on her car!

Comment by Pot calling kettle Tuesday, Oct 21, 08 @ 1:42 pm

  30. Squid-

For starters, the GP party platform on corporate interests is full of what promises to be bureaucratic meddling under the guise of making corporations “socially responsible”, much of which I am sure is well intentioned. I am all for corporations being “socially responsible”, and I am sure there are 1,000,000 definitions of what that is. I am also keenly aware of all the unintended consequences of well-intentioned laws, rules and regulations that are meant to bring about an intended result.

  31. I’m a republican precinct captain, in Wheeling Township, so I’ll walk that precinct for many GOP candidates, including Sen. McCain, Dr. Sauerberg, Rep. Kirk, Keith Gray (who is running for the state senate, against Terry Link), and Dan Sugrue (who is running for st. rep., against Kathy Ryg). I’ve been walking a precinct in Waukegan and one in North Chicago for Kirk and Gray. I have eight political bumper stickers, on my car.

Comment by Phil Collins Tuesday, Oct 21, 08 @ 2:30 pm

  32. 7 days a week, about 30-50 hours. Can’t say for whom. Wouldn’t want to give my candidates an unfair advantage. Can’t wait til this is over.

Comment by Bill Tuesday, Oct 21, 08 @ 2:36 pm

  33. Or an unfair disadvantage. . .?

Comment by Jake from Elwood Tuesday, Oct 21, 08 @ 3:12 pm

  34. Bill, it sure beats sitting around the office listening to the boss, don’t it? :-)

Comment by Gregor Tuesday, Oct 21, 08 @ 8:21 pm

  35. Volunteering. 8-10 hours. Everything from schelp to media. Why? I still believe government can be better.
