Chicago Mayor Richard Daley gave a not very complementary opinion of city workers while explaining why he sold four of the city’s assets for $6 billion.
Daley said Wednesday city employees are “clock-watchers” who don’t think about customers. He contends workers in the private sector are going to make sure the customer is satisfied.

Brutal assessment of city workers by the mare.
Many years ago I remember being in a room full of workers about a half hour before quitting time. Desks were clear, hands were folded all eyes were on the clock for the end of day stampede.
Still no reason to mortgage the future to pay today’s operating costs. Its like mortgaging a property which has no liens and using the money to pay the gas and electric bills. Da mare is desperate to have the money to fund the Olympic infrastructure and nothing including running down the city workers will stop him.
Leasing out Midway Airport (could have leased out Meigs too) and the parking meters is a bad, bad idea.

What Pluto said. And it seems funny for someone named Daley to be bashing the workers in the patronage machine. He knows as well as anyone what kind of system Chicago city government is - what has he done to change it?

Thanks for paying attention folks. How can you be hard on Burris’ office for not responding. How can it possibly be worse the Senator Obama who never did show up for work. Anybody that ever voted for Obama, has no right to complain about Burris. At least Burris knows where his office and Senate seat are!

No big deal with Burris being unavailable, we have only been represented by 1 US Senator for a while now. Seems Senator Burris is about as available as the crook that appointed him.

Daley has a lot of nerve. His pals and extended family members who get rich off the city taxpayers don’t have to watch the clock — in some cases, like Hired Truck, they don’t even have to show up to get paid.
His family has run City Hall since for 44 of the last 54 years. If there’s a poor work ethic there, he can look in the mirror for who to blame. And as we all know through years of multi-million dollar lawsuits, work ethic is not the first consideration for hiring at City Hall.

While I applaud Kristen McQueary for taking the mouth breathers at IFI to task, I only regret that they got any ink at all.

Right on, Wordslinger! If Daley doesn’t like the work-ethic of city workers he has had plenty of time to DO SOMETHING TO CHANGE IT. We would all be much better off if he did. But that isn’t the issue — it’s that he’ll say or do any crazy thing that he thinks will get his way no matter what the consequences. If he has to trash HIS OWN city workers so be it. You saw the same thing during the Children’s Museum fight — no comment was too off the wall or destructive if it helped him get his way.

Wasn’t it a few “city workers” who figured out that “The City that Works” (not) would make just as much dough off the parking meter deal if the City just raised the rates to the lessee’s new rate schedule? Oh yeah, and the City would still own the meters.
Oh, but Billy Jr. wouldn’t get a bonus.
Never mind.

If you are looking for a local race that is hot, try the contest in Cicero, where Cicero police officer Roberto Garcia is running for Town President and is leading an alliance called the Cicero Equality Committee in an effort to oust incumbent Town President Larry Dominick and end 85 years of corruption there.
If you think I’m off line, please not that under the Dominick regime, an ordanance was enacted there banning the distribution of free newspapers in the Town of Cicero; the First Amendment be damned!

Thanks for posting the article on Burris from the Springfield paper. It contained the email for Burris. That is not on his senate info page yet.
When I contacted Obama’s office in DC, I always got a person to talk to and if I emailed I got a response. Ditto Durbin.
Only person that was hard for me to get response from was Jerry Weller. Staffers were always polite but rarely did one see or hear from Weller. Probably out of the country with his wife and daughter living in Guatemala. Talk about being out of touch!

Hahaha!!!
Yeah, right.
Maybe we should privatize the Office of the Mayor. Replace Daley with an incompentent low wage surly jerk. Actually…I guess we’d save money compared to the incompetent high wage surly jerk.
