Poor Doug Scott. A nice guy. General Assembly comeback?

On an unrelated note, Rep. Karen Yarbrough’s husband is the new Village President of Maywood.

Looks like AFSCME lost the hospital vote in Evanston. And Shaw hung on in Dolton (partially because we don’t use instant runoff voting, so the anti-Shaw majority split between four candidates).

Perhaps Doug was too nice a guy. His refusal to hit back when he was being attacked probably reinforced his opponent’s attacks that he wouldn’t stand up to the Governor, whose mounting unpopularity didn’t help.
Telling folk you’re friends with the Governor invites them to take out their frustrations on you because he’s not up for election for another 11 months.
I remember when George Ryan was running around handing out Illinois FIRST money and Senate Republicans were making excuses for why they couldn’t show up at the press conference. Give them credit: they are so low on the evolutionary chain, nothing can override their survival instinct.
My advice to Doug: take some time off to decide if your heart is in it, then start planning your campaign to take back the Mayor’s office. Rockford needs a guy like you with a big heart and big imagination.

doug scott lost because he wouldnt go negative when his disapproves were rising and morriseys approvals were rising as well. he also had a campaign manager who was too assured of victory. these are the ingredients of a sure loss. too bad, becaue doug really is a great guy.
