* This will probably be my last post until Thursday. My intern Mike Murray will do a large Morning Shorts tomorrow with everything from all categories. I’m having a wisdom tooth removed in the morning and will likely be out of commission most of the day. Hope nothing big happens.
Anyway, enough of that. This is an open thread to discuss tonight’s local election and special congressional election results.
Have fun.
* 8:19 pm - OK, just one update: Jeff Clarke has been elected mayor of Pawnee. God help us all.
Also, some guy named Mike Quigley has all but won a congressional seat.

I completely forgot about the election until I saw a blurb in this blog earlier today and then proceeded to forget about it again until I saw this post. I don’t even remember seeing it mentioned in the Trib or Sun Times.

Slightly off topic, but the White Sox are on pace to go 162-0.

And we’re gonna stay on that pace, Scooby.
Go Sox.

My precinct had 30 voters around 9 am or so. Heavy turn out? 300 or so would be 30%…..

Lake County “Build 53″ referendum overwhelmingly passes - 75.7% to 24.3%, higher than I thought it would go.

Mayor Richard Hyde of Waukegan goes down in an upset! One factor was the large number of Latino voters who turned against him for his anti-immigrant policies.

My people smoked!!! God, I love election night!
BTW, Rich, I had all my wisdom teeth pulled in one shot. My advice: Sit in a comfy chair with your feet up and eat French Silk Pie or chocolate mousse for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Just rinse with a little liquour when you finish. If anyone questions your actions, you just tell them you had your wisdom teeth pulled! It works for at least a week, then they make you go back to work.

To a guy who is a county board member, and whose father was a long time Mayor of Waukegan. How is that an upset??

Does anybody out there know what the reinstatement status of Illinois Historic Preservation Agency employees is. Latest I heard is it is eminent and pending, possible executive order by Quinn.

The guy who is winning for Niles mayor has a guy on his ticket with seven felony convictions, including setting off a pipe bomb at a restaurant. He is barred by state law from serving as a trustee unless the Governor gives him clemency.

Oh, and those township “Disconnect from Cook County” advisories in Palatine, Hanover, and one other township all passed, too.

Rep Bob Rita’s mother just won her Cal Township super seat. Great women who has been a hard working alderman in Blue Island. Some help from the speaker helped put her over the top.
Kim Biederman could have used some more help from the Madigan clan though. She lost her bid for Niles mayor even with support from the local democrats and Madigan minions.
Jerry Hurkes, Lipinski’s former chief of staff, went down in flames in his bid for Oak Lawn mayor. Thank God. What a jerk.
Paul O’Grady, one of Mike Sheahan’s top guys won his Orland township supervisor spot pretty handily over the incumbent Maher. Dan McLaughlin easily won re-election as Orland mayor over the other Maher (cousins).
Don Tabor lost big for re-election in Stickney. His local senator may not be unhappy.
Rep. Yarbourgh’s father won re-election as mayor of Maywood. Putting the nail in the coffin (again) for Gene Moore’s home team. Somehow he can win county wide but not at home.

Leland Grove turned down the IMRF referendum again. Village employees are not covered by any pension system, not even Social Security. I think it’s wrong that municipalities in Illinois can refuse to provide even a minimal pension system to their employees. Of course the employees can go elsewhere, which they do. If there are pension changes in Illinois, the municipal pension system should be included. Illinois is the only state that has thousands of municipal entities each deciding pension coverage for itself.

Well maybe Mayor Hyde in Waukegan is now sorry he decided to spend the last four years harassing Latinos! The Latino precincts went for Sarbonjian 55% to 45%. The Illinois Coalition for Immigrants has registered over 1,000 voters up there during the last two elections and they were working Latino precincts hard today.
Not good to get those Latinos mad!!!!

O’Hare’s most entrenched opponent, Bensenville Mayor John Geils, got tossed. Looks like this closes the chapter on a losing crusade.
Comment by Six Degrees of Separation Tuesday, Apr 7, 09 @ 11:09 pm
Maybe Geils lost since he didn’t have the Finkl Steel / Blago “machine” to help him out this time around.

Lake Voter - I have always thought that Sen. Link took too much credit for Dem wins up there and he probably gets too much blame accordingly for their losses.

Excessively rabid: a little more info should have been forthcoming in your diatribe against Leland Grove. The truth is that voters turned down the IMRF proposition before, and the program was quietly implemented anyway. And, in fact, this new system is a DEFINED BENEFIT program. Who in their right mind would implement a defined-benefit program in this day & age?
It was discovered by most LG voters a couple days before the election that the plan had been implemented despite voter opinion, and I think we’re seeing some backlash.
