  1. As I tweeted you last night, was the first time I had seen you on t.v. did a great job, despite the shot at my friend mr. kirk. You need to go on there more.

  7. Great job…but you shouldn’t wear black, it over powers you…dark brown would be a better choice…

  8. I swear that it wasn’t me who wrote that nasty letter about Lisa Madigan that phil ponce read at the end of last night’s show. But, I would have happily co-signed the letter if i could have. :-)

lisa has lost much of her luster with the stunt she pulled about having hard time deciding what to do, as she held every other politican up, only to decide that she would have too hard a time winning anything other than the post she currently holds. maybe birkett should run against her just for the heck of it. if for no other reason, it would help the republicans generally moreso than him specifically.

and… what makes people think that dan hynes, if he runs, is the only person that would stand in her way if she decides to run for governor in 2014? pat quinn would be in his mid 60s and might not be ready to leave the governor’s office, assuming he is elected in 2010. or, an incumbent republican governor might not be ready to go. after the stunt that lisa pulled, i doubt politicans are going to be willing to be held hostage by her selfishnesses, or placate it in the future.

dan hynes was very impressive on chicago tonight. he is very calm and measured in how he responds to things. heaven forbid that illinois ever experience a crisis on the magnitude of hurricane katrina and the right type of governor not be in office. i suspect that if he were governor there would have been no budget crisis and stalemate; he would made cuts upfront, hold off on new spending, and then built a strong case for why a tax increase was/is warranted.

hynes understands the legislative branch and how it operates. But, more importantly his budget deficit number is $7billion, and seems to be more in agreement with legislators on that amount.

finally, with the exception of blago I’m not sure anyone who would think ill of rich miller.

  12. Rich drives policy… ergo Rich is responsible for the budget mess! :)

  13. Dan Hynes’ message about being too busy with the current crisis of his current job to focus on making a decision for a gubernatorial run was a dud. The comment is reminiscent of McCain, who canceled a debate with Obama to participate in his Senatorial duties - a decision that may have cost him the election. If Hynes really thinks he has what it takes to be Governor, he could better exemplify it by expressing concern for the crises facing our State, and firmly stating when he will announce a decision on whether to run.

  15. Nice job. More information is always good and this blog does a great of providing it. One comment though, and it’s not personal - haircut and shave man. Trust me on this.

  17. You remind me of Royko on TV. Definitely not a boob tube natural but then you relax and get rolling. The good part is you actually say things that hit home and aren’t pulled punches. All in all, very well done. I hope you continue in this medium because, for all it’s limitations, it has the most impact.

  18. once again, Dan Hynes, dull as dishwater.

  19. For the most part, I find WTTW (Wilmette Talks to Winnetka) exasperating or dull.

But Chicago Tonight is a treasure. Meat and potatoes local news.

  20. Hynes did look weak last night, and his comments about doing the job he has rung hollow…is he or is he not accountable for the circumstances @ Burr Oak? I am not impressed with him at this point in his career…I expect more where with all and passion…yawn!

  21. I don’t think Rich Miller is going to give up his beard anytime soon. He does need a hair cut, however!

  22. Really great job, Rich. We can only imagine what it’s like to live in your brain.

  23. hynes may be dull, but he is as sound as a pound. at the end of the day that is all that should really matter. besides, as someone affected by the Burr Oak mess, I thought he conducted himself appropriately on chicago tonight. It is a very somber and sad issue. There was no need for theatrics, grandstanding/posturing (i.e. pounding fist on table) and fiery rhetoric, and yet he STILL made headlines the following morning.

  24. Hynes looked terrible. I have a grandmother and 2 aunties at Burr Oak. He has been in Office for how many years and couldn’t get any cemetery oversight legislation passed. Folks with loved ones at Burr Oak have been saying the cemetery has been a mess for the last several years. Why didn’t Hynes pull their license then. It takes a tragedy like this to happen. This doesn’t make sense.

  25. @ anon - Tuesday, Jul 14, 09 @ 5:03 pm:

have you not been paying attention? the cemetery lobby successfully blocked Hynes’ efforts to get tougher regulation legisation passed in 2001/2001.

I realize this is an emotional issue, but why weren’t YOU sounding the drum on Burr Oak? Did you contact your state legislators between 2000-2008? Did you contact governors ryan or blagojevich’s offices? when you for years saw the conditions of burr oak did you complain?

did you get on the legislators who sided with the cemetery lobby against Hynes? Your ire is probably better directed at the former rather than the latter.

I understand that this is an emotional issue, but be reasonable and honest with yourself. because someone could point the finger at YOU and say would’ve, could’ve, should’ve. Maybe you didn’t visit your loved ones enough and that is what is really bothering you?
