Miller will be just fine in this primary. He is intelligent, works hard, and is one of the best members we have. Plus he knows how to work his district. On a more important note, please put David and his family in your thoughts as his father passed away this past weekend.

It seems we WILL have some important/exciting Dem Primaries. Now, question is, whom does this help/hurt?
1)Activists always vote.
2)Primaries (esp exciting ones) tend to drive Joe Average to vote.
So, my take is that the winners are:
1) The Major. Any hope Ceg. had was a low turnout where her local connections. The media frenzy of a gubernatorial primary and Chicago primaries will increase Dem voter turnout. I assume the major will get more air cover (sorry, couldn’t resist) than Cegalis, this helps her.
2) Melissa Bean. She doesn’t have an opponent, but her opponents will pay more for their air time, weakening them. Also, they’ll get less coverage.
3) Oberweis. Contested congressional campaigns will bring up immigration, keeping his issue alive without him having to do it. Also, see below.
Losers:
1) JBT. Dem voters will be pulling a Dem ballot.
2) Gun Ban Rod. Never helps to have an opponenet. Yes, 14MM is more than say 5 or 6. But 5 MM lets you get your message out, and that softens up GB for the winner of the Repub primary. Also, if feelings run high, there might be less efforts for GB in cook co and the city come November.
3) Prince Obama. (This is a longshot, but I can hope, can’t I?) He might get caught in the crossfire between the various Dem organizations in the city/county. It’s not too hard for a Senator to stay above it, but his involvement in a primary shows he might not do so.

The Shaws will have to be whipped and whipped and whipped until they either completely crushed or the U.S. Attorney gets enough goods on them. But they (and their allies) will be crushed this March.

David Miller is one of the finest people I know in public life. He should be supported. David has won contested primary after contested primary, including one after the remap where he was pitted against both a white incumbent and the previous state rep who he had defeated two years earlier. The theory was that they were going to divide the black vote, and the white guy would skate in. But Rep. Miller beat that squeeze play, so he will handle the Shaws handily, as he always has. And the legislature will be a lot better off for it!
