* I posted some new campaign ads over the weekend, but you didn’t get a chance to rate them. Now, you can.
First up, Sen. Kirk Dillard’s new spot…
* Democratic comptroller candidate Raja Krishnamoorthi’s ad…
* GOP lieutenant governor candidate Jason Plummer’s new spot…
Plummer has some big bucks to spend…
Earlier this month, Plummer loaned $150,000 to his own campaign.
Plummer, of Edwardsville, also received a $500,000 donation last week from the lumber company owned by his family. His father, Robert, also loaned his campaign $200,000 in December.
John Pastuovic, spokesperson for Plummer’s campaign, said Plummer decided early in the race to self-fund his campaign and rely on donations primarily from friends and family.

The Raja ad is really not that bad. He appears smooth and confident. What a drastic difference he would be to Topinka.
The Plummer ad is horriable. From the get go he conveys that he is to young to run for statewide office. Is that his mom at the table talking him out of the race?? Why does he not actually speak to the camera?? What is with the photos only?? He is not game ready.
As for Dillard…stop the name dropping Edgar. I am not voting for Jim Edgar. Jim Edgar. Jim Edgar. Jim Edgar.

They are all OK ads, but after a while they all look and sound the same. A determined look into the distance, shaking hands, some endorsement by a better known person, checking some papers, walking in a work site, with some message about how hard they will work to clean up the mess left by whoever has the current office. And the American flag/colors must show up somewhere. Some ads are well done, others not so good. Go to other states and you see the exact same basic ads, just different faces. I realize it is hard to sell yourself in 30 seconds and say much of anything so this turns into generic name recognition. The far bigger stories are the ones not in the ads like Plummer who is running because the family kicked in $850,000. Not quite the same qualifying message as 5,000 people like him enough to support him with small donations. Tough business. Most of this stuff is as memorable as a hand soap commercial.

Dillard’s hook is Edgar. Insiders may not be swayed by Edgar but he is the most popular political figure in the state by a mile. Looks good, hits job issue and ethics. If he can buy big enough it can have impact.
Raja’s ad is well thought out but he still looks way too young. The Obama hook is great in the Dem primary, but he still comes across as a kid.
Plummer ad is very forgetable. The only thing of note is that he looks like a cub scout running for Jr. High class president. BTW, if I asked my Dad for half a mil to run for lite gov, he’d rather spend the money to get me the best psychiatric help available.

I think the Raja spot is excellent. Solid intro spot that includes a measurable, common-sense promise to put more info online. He’s very good on camera.
Dillard’s is fine; not great, but fine. He hits his marks and brings in his unique selling point, Edgar. The most important thing for him was to just get on TV. McKenna’s pretty much owned the airwaves in Chicago to now.
Plummer’s spot is awfully heroic for the office he’s seeking. Listen to the music: it’s a stock, needledrop knockoff of John Williams “Superman” theme (just a few changes, here and there). You also have the red-and-blue streak across the graphics, like The Man of Steel.
Still, a guy has to break in somehow, and the Plummer spot is a nice intro, if you like a lot of sizzle, but not much steak. He’s the only GOPer I’ve received mail from, too, so he’s spending that money.

Wordslinger is right, the kid Plummer’s ad is a bit over the top for a novice with no record to hang a hat on.
What really made an image stick in me is when the kid is talking to a male senior, and then others in the ad one-on-one, and how young and out of place he looks. Even in his stand-up at the podium, he looks more acting like an adult, then actually being an adult.
The kid is trying to use the “stock” images you need in an ad, he just can’t pull off the image as a true reflection of leadership.

dillards is the best. his campaign has come down to one word: edgar. I am not voting for anything to deal with the inside of the gop this year out of disgust but i am sure for others it might work.
the raja ad is standard nothing great. I am not a democrat so I dont know what words. I could also see a situation where a voter who doesn’t know his vanilla man from his wordslinger confuses krishnamoorthi with giannolouias or andrewjsksi. bad year to have a long last name.
plummer ad is awful.

What is new about Dillard’s ad?
We already know he is Edgar’s boy.
Dillard needed to have given us more reasons to vote for him, than a retread of what he has already told us.
Plummer is embarrassing.
Raja Krishnamoorthi’s ad is very good. He is very likeable. I wish him well.
If I voted GOP, I would give him, and Dillard, my votes.
But as a Democrat, I am voting against every single one of our incumbants. I want a total house cleaning, or we won’t win a damn thing in November - and shouldn’t.

I hope that Plummer will lose to Randy White, since White is a conservative who has experience, in an elective office. White has been a county commissioner since 2005. He’s pro-tax cuts, pro-spending cuts, pro-gun rights, and pro-school choice.

FYI, that ad you put up yesterday was Toni Preckwinkle’s SECOND ad, not her first ad. It may be worth posting up again … She’s been up on the air since Thursday, not Monday.
What ever happened to Scott Lee Cohen’s ad? He was the first one with an “ad,” I never saw it on TV and he said he was dumping $3 million into his campaign. So far he’s put $540,000. That’s a lot, but it’s not $3 million. I figured he’d be up non-stop.

Raja’s ad was basic but quite good at explaining who he is to a lot of voters who may not have heard of him before. I give it a B+. Raja came across rather well last night on Chicago Tonight when he appeared with his 2 democratic opponents for the office.
But, the ads for literally ALL the candidates out there almost make me grin when they make their promises of what they will do if elected. Illinoisans, and indeed much of America, have lost trust that most campaign promises made will actually be kept. It would be so fun to see a candidate—-right after he/she makes the statement “I will……” —-to smile knowingly and add “No, I WILL. I’m sincere here. I really mean it. I’m not jiving you about this.”

Dillard’s ad is better than average. Critical for people to actually hear the candidate and Jim Edgar is still hugely popular.
Raja’s ad is a strong introductory ad. Good tone, well spoken, and seems likeable.
Plummer’s PR firm and campaign staff who allowed this ad to go on TV should be fired. Absolutely horrendous.

Dillard: utterly conventional, but will resonate with his base somewhat.
Raja krshna. Kristom…(yes, went for the cheap “Office Space” joke)
His spot is not bad at all, has some humor, and at least his name is never going to be confused with “Ryan”. I liked the subtle Obama callout. A for effort, B+ for execution.
Plummer: while that flat 3-d technique is very trendy now, somehow it just looks creepy applied to this spot.

I heard college kids were playing drinking games pegged to Dillard (i.e., must drink whenever Dillard drops the name “Edgar”) - but university bans have now been instituted because too many students were showing up at the hospital with alcohol poisoning. If it’s a 90 minute debate, forget it. You’re dead.
Okay, I made that up. But Dillard is becoming a joke with the Edgar over use.

Randy White’s campaign consists of three people online saying he will win because God will part the Red Sea for him or something. Republicans haven’t heard of him, just political junkies online all the time.

Thats a new spot for Dillard? I have seen that picture for the last 5 months, who cares what the rest of the spot says. Edgar, Edgar, Edgar doesn’t Dillard know the conservatives hate him? Edgar brought us Judy Barr. Uncle Jack going with Dillard shows he has finally scummed to oldtimers it is sad.

Dillard’s ad isn’t really new. It a mix & get’s down to let’s vote for “Edgar” cause it sure doesn’t lay out anything about solid about Dillard. Dillard wins it’s 4 more years of Dem’s. With Dillard really can’t tell the difference. Maybe Barrack can come in & help him out. Worked well in Jersey & Mass.

After the tea party win tonight Adam has to be energized these tea party people have just shown that they are a movement to be reconed with. Adam is their guy this will now be a fun race to watch. I hear Adam is raising a few thousand a day on line I wonder if this will double?
