  1. One year for every month in office.

Comment by VanillaMan Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:27 pm

  2. 50. That’s the “golden” number!

Comment by Vote Quimby! Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:28 pm

  3. Five “up” years.

Comment by Ravenswood Right Winger Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:29 pm

  4. The one who definitely will be serving a hard time will be his unfortunate cell mate. But Rod should be doing 3 years doing Elvis impersonation every Wednesday at the prison cafeteria during lunch followed by 2 years breading the hair of soon-to-be release prisoners.

Comment by Me Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:30 pm

  5. Six years minimum, same as the Senate term he got busted for trying to sell.

    Comment by 47th Ward Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:30 pm

  6. As Elvis sang, “Today, Tomorrow and Forever.”

Comment by Adolfo Phillips Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:31 pm

  7. I defer to Bill. Bill? Where are you Bill?

Comment by unspun Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:32 pm

  8. Why put the man in jail? He is the exact kind of person the people of Illinois want as a leader. Not only was he elected, he was re-elected and quite frankly I think he would be elected again if he would run. In Illinois, it is all about who can hand out the most entitlements. The voters don’t really care because they know money grows on trees in Springfield. That’s how it is in Illinois

Comment by Sueann Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:32 pm

  9. I dont want to see him go to prison because I rather not have my tax dollars paying for his haircuts. I think a more appropriate punishment would be to force him to work. He should be sentenced to observing and transcribing every single minute of proceedings of the General Assembly and Senate, including committee and floor debate. He should have to listen to every speech made by Quinn, Madigan (Lisa and Michael),and every other elected constitutional officer from the date of sentencing until the day of his death. He should have to read every single audit performed by the Auditor General.

    That’s a punishment.

Comment by ugh Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:32 pm

  10. Let’s see….he put the state $13 billion in the hole, so let’s start with 13 years. Then we’ll add a year for each “celebrity” show he (or his wife) appears on. So I guess it’s 15 and climbing.

Comment by El Conquistador Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:33 pm

  11. One year for every time he questioned somebody else’s ethics.

Comment by Rich Miller Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:37 pm

  12. one year for every campaign donation over 25,000

Comment by not sure Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:37 pm

  13. I’d like to see him serve 25,000 hours of community service.

    Comment by Cheryl44 Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:37 pm

  14. As long as it takes him to learn to type and use a laptop PC. If it is proven that he can type out his complete first inaugural speech with no errors and figure out how to email it to the Chicago Tribune news desk, he is elible for parole.

Comment by Hunterdon Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:38 pm

  15. One year for every Million he held back from Childrens Memorial

One month for every minute he was late to an official event.

6 months for every special session called.

Comment by OneMan Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:38 pm

  16. One year for every Elvis reference … 2 Years for every “Hunka Hunka” Elvis reference …

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:39 pm

  17. 35 years; one year for each of us he fired his first day in office! (Well, it’s as good a rationale as anything else I’ve heard.)

Comment by Anonymous Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:39 pm

  18. One month for each day Rolland Burris serves as Senator.

Comment by Ronbo Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:42 pm

  19. The length of time in prison is not as important to me as is the hard time. I want Blago sentenced to chipping away by spoon at Roland W. Burris’ tombstone– adding the lines:

    U.S. Senator 2009- 2011
Appointed by impeached Gov. Rod. R. Blagojevich

    .

Comment by Responsa Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:43 pm

  20. One year for every year the Cubs have NOT won a World Series … serving continually with the Cubs activ streak! Cube Win, Rod has an end date!

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:44 pm

  21. If George Ryan got 6 1/2 years, Blago should get a life sentence.

Comment by life for Blago Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:45 pm

  22. Until he goes bald.

Comment by David Starrett Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:46 pm

  23. He should be ordered to pay back every penyy that he wasted by not living in springfield & USING the state police for his own pleasure - and then go to jail for the rest of his ignorant life- although he’s not the “top man” in all of this, it goes a lot furhter, otherwise he would not have been allowed to go all over making a complete and total ass of himself so no one will belive him when/if he tells the truth. TC need to find your proof.

Comment by chakka Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:47 pm

  24. Personally, I’s like to see Rod escape to Serbia and host a game show.

I’m really sick of the man and if I never saw him again I would be ok with that.

Since the game show idea is unlikely how about forcing him to fill up some abandoned missile silo with a spoon. That should keep him busy for a decade or more.

Comment by IrishPirate Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:48 pm

  25. Every letter of his last name represents 3 years he must serve

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:48 pm

  26. ugh, I’d be happy to pay for his haircuts - as long as it’s a buzz.

For length of sentence - I say, keep him locked up until he finally admits that he was wrong. He’s such a sociopath that it would amount to a life sentence.

Comment by grand old partisan Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:49 pm

  27. selling a us senate seat? 50 years

Comment by henry Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:49 pm

  28. Until he loses his testicular virility. Until he admits he did something wrong. Until a survey is taken and people don’t know who Rod Blagojevich is.

Comment by Irish Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:50 pm

  29. Starrett wins. LOL

Comment by Rich Miller Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:50 pm

  30. one year for every unexplained birthday check.

Comment by Arthur Andersen Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:50 pm

  31. I think you start with the assumption that he’s convicted on most charges. Assuming such; his crimes are more grievous than those of GHR and 6.5 years in the minimum length of time. While the “selling” of the Obama seat is the most media-worthy alleged crime, others are more offensive to the public trust; number one among them is the Children’s Hospital attempted shake-down. Since the question is how many years would you “like” to see him in jail, my answer is 30. Although, assuming he’s convicted on nearly every count, 12-15 seems appropriate.

Comment by Red Ranger Monday, May 24, 10 @ 12:56 pm

  32. This is a mean questions, Rich. Even if you don’t like the guy or his wife, he has kids and family who do like him. This is a bit below the belt for my taste.

Comment by Janice Appleton Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:01 pm

  33. I think he should serve 11 years, because it’s “one greater than 10″ …

    Signed,

    Nigel Tufnel

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:02 pm

  34. Hope he gets 1 year for EVERY day in office another year for EVERY Talk Show he went on, 1 year for EVERY Radio Show he does or went on and 10 years for performance on Apprentice-that was PAINFUL! Hope they shave his hair-that will be the best to see! He deserves a FRESH NEW START!

Comment by curious Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:03 pm

  35. 53 years as long as he’s graced us with his presence.

Comment by Northside Bunker Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:07 pm

  36. ===he has kids and family who do like him===

His kids and his wife should be staying as far away from this blog as possible.

    Carry on, people.

Comment by Rich Miller Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:07 pm

  37. Prison? Chain gang!!!

Comment by Amalia Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:08 pm

  38. Actually served, not counting the time off for good behavior; five years.

Comment by Some Guy Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:09 pm

  39. One month for every “day” roundtrip flight of the state plane to get back to the Guv Mansion … err .. his house.

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:09 pm

  40. 25 years

Comment by fisher Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:11 pm

  41. I actually like the “innocent until proven guilty” provision in our law . . . as such I won’t say that the man deserves any punishment until he is convicted . . . and not just in the court of public opinion . . .

Comment by QC Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:12 pm

  42. He has to be incarcerated until that little girl figures out Rod is not Mayor Daley ….

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:12 pm

  43. At least as many as Brady will have to. LOL

Comment by just sayin' Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:13 pm

  48. How about every?

Comment by Pale Rider Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:30 pm

  49. I’d like to see something creative. 10 years, but released early with this caveat: he can’t get near any sort of mass media producing entity (tv, radio, hell even a blog). If he violates it, he goes right back.

That way, he’s tortured for the rest of his life and we don’t have to see or hear him.

    Comment by Tom B. Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:32 pm

  50. Eleven sounds right.

    The evidence:

    Blagojevich

    P. Fitzgerald
    indictments
    morning call

    Just my guess.

  51. One year for every day he spent bussing around with Rich….

Comment by Ghost Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:39 pm

  52. Of course, all of you are assuming that following his conviction the judge doesn’t order a psychiatric evaluation of Blago that determines that he is incompetent to serve time in a standard prison.

Comment by fedup dem Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:40 pm

  53. Life.

Comment by Segatari Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:41 pm

  54. No jail time. It will just cost taxpayers more money. House arrest with enforced community service like working a bread line, being a state fair livestock show volunteer, being a school bus monitor, a tour guide in the Capitol. No media work allowed and also having to wear an ankle monitor.

Comment by Captain Flume Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:43 pm

  55. On emonth for every dollar he stole from tax payers. Keep the audits coming!

Comment by Say WHAT? Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:45 pm

  56. When he is found guilty, how about one year for every time he proclaimed I AM INNOCENT!

Comment by Say WHAT? Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:48 pm

  57. “I say we let him go …”

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 24, 10 @ 1:52 pm

  58. Depends on how long TV viewers watch the hot new reality show “Jailhouse Rod”.

Comment by Bluefish Monday, May 24, 10 @ 2:16 pm

  59. I am offended that people think he belongs in Jail at all. He is innocent until proven guilty in this country and this blog is evidence he cannot get a free trial. I want my Free Rod T-shirt.

Actually, he should not be in jail, he should be on public display like all other national treasures. Any body know where we can get the cage from Silence of the Lambs. We can bus him around the country and lets kids from all around come to the local Gym to get a glimpse of the greatest hair on earth. Charge $1.00 a person and when we are in the black he can walk.

Comment by the Patriot Monday, May 24, 10 @ 2:19 pm

  60. ===We can bus him around the country and lets kids from all around come to the local Gym to get a glimpse of the greatest hair on earth.==

As long as he’s gagged, I’m cool with it.

Comment by Rich Miller Monday, May 24, 10 @ 2:20 pm

  61. He should only stray in until the State gets the budget straitened out.

Comment by BigTwich Monday, May 24, 10 @ 2:25 pm

  62. Whatever the sentence, make sure he’s not eligible for the Michael Randle (Early Release) Special.

Comment by SAP Monday, May 24, 10 @ 2:29 pm

  63. OneMan beat me to what I was going to originally say, but I’d settle for a year in volunteer work for every hospital, school, and mental health facility that he either shook down or gave the shaft to.

Or a life sentence with a kick me sign on his back would be pretty rich too.

    Comment by Bring Back Boone's Monday, May 24, 10 @ 2:36 pm

  64. One month for each minute he was late to a press conference or event. 5 years for each instance of holding up the State Fair Parade.

Comment by Behind Bars Monday, May 24, 10 @ 2:42 pm

  65. One year, without a comb, brush, or mirror. Then he’ll be off to the funny farm.

Personally I’d like him to serve 15-years minimum, mandatory.

Comment by Justice Monday, May 24, 10 @ 2:47 pm

  66. One year for every minute Rod was late and held up Vince Demuzio’s Funeral Mass ….

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 24, 10 @ 2:48 pm

  67. I think a couple of years in each of our understaffed facility’s would be nice!

Comment by NIEVA Monday, May 24, 10 @ 3:12 pm

  68. Hey Rich, what’s the average time served by a convicted rapist in Illinois? Want Blago to serve more time? (Bet you’d get a different answer if you polled men and women on that question — not a blog poll but a real one).

Comment by lake county democrat Monday, May 24, 10 @ 3:22 pm

  69. One year for each word of that Rudyard Kipling poem he likes to quote.

Comment by Anon Monday, May 24, 10 @ 3:22 pm

  70. Probation with the condition that he can’t go near a camera or microphone for the rest of his life.

Comment by quicknote Monday, May 24, 10 @ 3:30 pm

  71. One month for every hair on his head. Do you think he’d have the guts to shave his head to shave his sentence? Neither do I.

Comment by KeepSmiling Monday, May 24, 10 @ 3:41 pm

  72. Rod better learn the rules …

    THEM CLOTHES GOT LAUNDRY NUMBERS.

ANY MAN FORGETS HIS NUMBER SPENDS A NIGHT IN THE BOX.

KEEP THESE SPOONS WITH YOU. ANY MAN LOSES HIS SPOON SPENDS A NIGHT IN THE BOX.

NO FIGHTIN’ IN THE BUILDING. YOU GOT A GRUDGE AGAINST SOMEONE, FIGHT HIM SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

FIRST BELL IS AT 7:55. GET IN YOUR BUNK. ANY MAN NOT IN HIS BUNK AT 8:00 SPENDS A NIGHT IN THE BOX.

TO SMOKE, KEEP BOTH LEGS OVER THE SIDE OF YOUR BUNK. ANYONE SMOKING IN THE PRONE POSITION SPENDS A NIGHT IN THE BOX.

SIT ON BUNK WITH DIRTY PANTS, SPEND A NIGHT
    IN THE BOX.

FORGET YOUR EMPTY POP BOTTLE, NIGHT IN THE BOX.

ANY MAN LOUD TALKING SPENDS A NIGHT IN THE BOX.

ANY MAN BRUSHES HIS HAIR TO MUCH SPENDS A NIGHT IN THE BOX.

ANY MAN CALLS HIS HIRBRUSH A “FOOTBALL” SPENDS A NIGHT IN THE BOX…

    THEM ARE THE RULES ….

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 24, 10 @ 3:50 pm

  73. Just make him clean up after the state fair parade, and he’s free as soon as the entire route is clean. Of course, with the locals throwing trash at him whenever he’s out cleaning up, he’ll never be done.

Comment by Pat Robertson Monday, May 24, 10 @ 3:51 pm

  74. Just make sure that he is bored the whole time he’s in the clink. That’ll make five years feel like twenty-five.

Comment by Aldyth Monday, May 24, 10 @ 4:06 pm

  75. length of sentence doesn’t matter, as long as they give him a burr haircut and put a gag order on him.

Comment by Downstate Commissioner Monday, May 24, 10 @ 4:08 pm

  76. One year for each time he said he was going to end the culture of corruption. Plus an additional 6 months for every time he blamed George Ryan for something.

I agree with you on the gag Rich. Judge should specify that any time off for good behavior is contingent upon him not being on television.

Comment by siriusly Monday, May 24, 10 @ 4:31 pm

  77. Speaking of George Ryan, they may actually serve time together until Ryan gets out in 2013. I wonder if he has some choice words for his successor.

Comment by siriusly Monday, May 24, 10 @ 4:36 pm

  78. California ever go forward with that idea of subbing out their prisons to northern mexico?? There’s a spot for him….close to his law school and all.

Comment by Park Monday, May 24, 10 @ 6:19 pm

  79. Life..but in reality I would say in the 20’s.

Comment by scoot Monday, May 24, 10 @ 6:47 pm

  80. no prison. make him do the laundry for the White Sox for 10 years.

Comment by Moving to Oklahoma Monday, May 24, 10 @ 7:03 pm

  81. 1 day for every “what’s she thinking” commercial he ran against JBT-that should be in the 100’s of years…

Comment by ourMagician Monday, May 24, 10 @ 7:10 pm

  82. forever with NO hairbrush! Tha t would be bl**ping golden!

Comment by cb gardens Monday, May 24, 10 @ 8:05 pm

  83. The point is made about Ryan: six and a half years. If that’s the measure, than Blago gets at least 30.

By the way, it’s time to let Ryan out. Justice has been served.

Comment by wordslinger Monday, May 24, 10 @ 10:09 pm

  84. I agree with the proportionality of the sentences, Wordslinger, but can’t quite get there to say he should be released.

    Blago should do:

    1) One day for every day he was governor that he did nothing for the people of the state;
    2) One week for everytime he publicly compared himself to some famously persecuted or heroic person;
    3) One week for everytime he publicly blamed the feds, Barack Obama or Mike Madigan for his troubles;
    4) One week for two dozen of his most egregious other delusional statements.

That should add up to about 30 years.

Comment by Quizzical Monday, May 24, 10 @ 10:16 pm

  85. I’d like to see a permanent “failure to communicate”; i.e., not one more single appearance on any media program and not a single further word printed about him. I’d like to see him just “fade away to black.” That would be sentence enough for him and would bring the rest of us such sweet relief.

Comment by Little Egypt Monday, May 24, 10 @ 11:00 pm

  86. Put him under house arrest forever with Patti and Hannah Montana reruns.

Comment by Little Egypt Monday, May 24, 10 @ 11:08 pm

  87. One year for every record Elvis sold.
