While we’re tracking the AP’s decision to call the gubernatorial election for Gov. Quinn, Senate President John Cullerton has decided not to call the pension borrowing bill until the veto session…
Senate President John Cullerton told a committee Thursday he would continue talking to the GOP and try to resurrect the multibillion plan when the fall veto session begins in 10 days.

The lingering roadblock was reminiscent of what happened last spring, when the plan won narrow support in the House, but stalled in the Senate when Democrats insisted some Republicans vote in favor of the borrowing plan.
“It doesn’t look like we have support. But we’re not there yet,” Cullerton said. “I’m just asking for Republicans to come around. They are not there yet.”
Republicans, who picked up two seats in the chamber after Tuesday’s balloting but remain in the minority, say no matter the outcome of the election they want Democrats to commit to additional savings in upcoming budgets as a way to start digging the state out of its huge budget hole.
“It’s unfortunate we’re here,” Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno said.

So Larry doesn’t want to cut state employment and Dave sure likes higher ed spending. But, hey, since you guys don’t want to cut, wanna help us pay for the stuff and people in your areas?
Nope.
Republicans gotta step to the plate at some point. They’ve been relying on Dems to solve (or not solve) everything while they sit back and blast the Dems management.
Well, they lost again and at some point they might wanna consider participating. Otherwise the Dems could just whack state employment, slash SIU and maybe EIU (Dale Righter) and use the savings to make pension payments.
It’s not like there’s a bunch of state pensioners in the urban core of Chicago, yet for some reason those lawmakers are supposed to be “yes” votes when the people who have these institutions aren’t?
C’mon.
Of course Cross sent a nice message when he kicked Black and Biggins out of leadership when they voted for the pension plan back in May.
Was that his responsibility and obligation as minority leader?

As a great man once said: Some bills will pass, some bills will fail. And that’s the legislative process. Nothing more, nothing less.

If Democrats think Republicans should help solve the State’s problems, then they should let them win a few races. If not, then they should realize they run State government and fix the problems. I think it is inherently unfair to say the Democrats are the best ones to run the State, but that Republicans need to help take the hard votes.

Two enough? They won two.
Let’s see, they didn’t have any problem voting for Blago’s $10 billion pension bond. Did they? Oh, but its the Dems that got us in this mess.
I think its inherently unfair for Republicans to vote entirely against their local districts just so they can claim political purity and all the while expect the Dems to maintain the facilities and employees in their districts.
A little less of that behavior would go a long way toward solving the state’s problems.

As of January, there will be no way to pass a bond bill in the Senate without bipartisan cooperation. Either way, they’ll be taking the “hard” vote, yes or no. Get used to it.

The difference being that the party with the most power will be required to negotiate with the party with the least power, if they want the party with the least power to share the responsibility.
