Since Comments are off on today’s Subscriber post, I guess I’ll put this here. In the last paragraph of the “Controversy” item, it says:
“That would appear to conflict with the Illinois Constitution, which states that nominations “not acted upon by the Senate within 60 session days after the receipt thereof shall be deemed to have received the advice and consent of the Senate.” The Constitution would seem to keep the clock ticking on the appointees regardless of the changeover in new General Assemblies and would confirm Monken and the others if the Senate fails to act.”
If that is true, then the Governor should have appointed everybody on the last day before the Senate adjourned. That would start the clock. After the old Senate adjourned, the new Senate would come in and be unable to hear the old appointments (since they were addressed to a different General Assembly). Then they could run out the 60 session days, get automatically confirmed, and the Senate couldn’t do anything to stop it.
Either the quote is mistaken, or Quinn just threw away a golden opportunity to force all his appointees past the Senate.

No, (fmr) Sen. Braun, let’s don’t, and not even say we did. If it’s not allowed at the RD’s dinner table, then it isn’t good fodder for a debate.

Why is it not good fodder for a debate? It’s in a book, did Rahm say it? Because his comment is horribly offensive to women. If it were a racial comment you can bet that it would not only be debate fodder, it would be grounds for dismissal. The only question about the tampon comment is….what is the truth? and it is completely proper to ask Rahm the question.

Also, Chicago Alderman Gene Schulter will NOT run for re-election in the 47th Ward. Instead he is angling for a seat on the Board of Review…which would be intriguing because he endorsed Claypool over Berrios for Assessor.

I disagree with the kids impressive part. Some of them struggled to read the questions which is unacceptable for 16 and 17 year olds.

Shore, a couple of the kids struggled with the questions, but plenty of were bright and articulate — the same for adults. But the articles afterwards were right on — the candidates spoke only in generalizations and offered no specifics. The kids, at least those interviewed afterwards, were smart enough to see that.

It is simply incredible how Blago was able to anti-midas everything and everyone he touched, except perhaps Quinn. What was Chico thinking? How could he be so dumb as to have a funder for Blago-at that time.

Don’t know, wasn’t there. Judging from Rahm’s public image, I’d say, ‘yeah, sounds right.’ Did he even say it when women we’re around?

It’s a loser for her even if she wins. We already know he’s brash, it’s nothing new. We’ve heard he called some of Barack’s base ‘retards’, that he curses like a sailor, and then there’s the Saturday Night Live caricature.
It’s a loser because 50% of the population is not too comfortable with ‘girl talk’. Another 50% of the population, and maybe more, are annoyed with the school of identity politics that takes umbrage for the sake of taking umbrage.
She’s reinforcing a point that doesn’t need reinforced, and in the process becoming ‘that yucky lady who brought up tampons’.

oh, yeah, cause saying something sexist when a female is not around is ok. and “that yucky lady who brought up tampons?” seriously? it’s the first thing Braun has said that makes me think her brain is working.
more people need to ask Rahm about the tampon comment. not fewer. it’s not brash, it’s sexist!

Yes. Seriously.
Leveling the charge sticks to her, and doesn’t harm him. If she was smart, she’d have her surrogates and stringers in the press play this card for her.
Men are a mysterious bunch. They don’t cotton to tampon talk, but challenging others’ masculinity to motivate them is all good - even if tampons are mentioned. Sexist? Maybe.
But how do you shame a man into working harder - AND _not_ offend _someone_? (women, gays, the lazy, the mentally deficient, the handicapped, the children?)

Sexist? not maybe, absolutely. but Tampon Rahm is not in this company alone. Bobby Knight was famous for hanging tampons in the lockers of players who, in his opinion, were doing a bad job. It’s digging at a male by calling him a female and therefore weak. it is certainly unusual but it is most certainly horrid bad behavior. and sexist. were is something racist, you know, like putting some watermelon in a locker, or telling someone to go eat their watermelon, there would be huge handwringing. Braun may well play it better by having others do the work. But every once in a while it’s nice to see someone call a sexist a sexist. and she sure did that.
as for how to shame a man into working harder, I’m sure glad I don’t work with you. it is never permissible to offend women, LGBT, intellectually challenged, physically challenged, children, really, anyone. shaming by destroying others is just plain mean. why not try telling someone they have to work harder, you know, managing as an adult.

Work for me? Don’t knock it until you try it. Everyone I’ve ever managed has raved about the experience - especially the skirts!
In sincerity, though, don’t mistake my explanation of the way things woik’ in some environments as my personal style. Motivating males in certain environments (sports, military, blue collar, sales) will often tend to ‘meanness’ at the expense of political correctness.
If my sons or daughters are going off to war, I sure as hell don’t want them trained by Sergeants who aren’t ‘mean’.
