Nasty robocalls - Romney wins Illinois - Election Results Live Blog

Posted in:

* Several Cook County voters have received some very nasty robocalls over the past day or so. A large number of Cook County pols have been slammed by these robocalls, and the one thing they may have in common is that they all are opponents of Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court Dorothy Brown.

Some commenters reported receiving robocalls today about a non-politician, however. Rick Pearson of the Tribune was attacked. Nobody I’ve found connected with this story seems to have any idea why a politician would be this stupid. I mean, attacking a reporter in a robocall? Stupid.

But the Tribune endorsed Rick Munoz, who’s running against Brown, so the enemies were all hit Godfather style - brutally and at the same. Listen

* Text…

The Chicago Tribune was called a criminal enterprise by a federal bankruptcy judge. Perhaps this is why the Chicago Tribune proudly endorses three-time convicted criminals for political office. While we work hard and do what we can to provide for our families, the Chicago Tribune’s political reporter Rick Pearson actually lobbied corrupt politicians for government jobs for family members. Does the Tribune lose readership because its reporters and editors are essentially press secretaries for the most corrupt politicians in the state of Illinois? Call editor Bruce Dold at [redacted] and tell him to resign.

The “three-time convicted criminal” allegation dovetails with a recent mailer whacking Munoz.

* Meanwhile, early exit polls reportedly show a double-digit lead for Mitt Romney over Rick Santorum, 45-35.

* And our live blog. BlackBerry users click here. Everybody else can just watch the automatically updated thingamabob. As before, when I open another precinct report post, I’ll move this ScribbleLive thing over to it…

Going down the line of all these contests on both the D and R side where it was establishment-backed candidate vs. insurgent, is there anybody who won that was a nobody that nobody sent?

Of course he hates freedom. Who doesn’t? He hates puppies and mom, too.

Nixon said, run to the right in the primaries, run to the middle in the general.

I’m not sure he can run to the middle, anymore. He’s getting killed in one-on-ones with Obama in Virginia and North Carolina. Also losing in South Carolina.

If that holds up, game over.

  25. Still looking like Danny Davis is losing his ward committeeman post. I’m with Not rev moon on this one. How’d it happen?

Comment by WooStl Tuesday, Mar 20, 12 @ 10:35 pm

  26. I received one of the anti-Tribune robocalls at 5:11 pm. It was particularly abusive because it appeared to broadcast a newsman’s home phone number. It was particularly dumb because, even on election day, it did not advocate electoral action. In addition, “never argue with a man who buys his ink by the barrel.”

Comment by Rhino Tuesday, Mar 20, 12 @ 10:47 pm

  27. Technically Davis isn’t losing the post. He’s not the incumbent in that fight. Deborah Graham was appointed committeeman at the same time she was appointed alderman.

  28. Macoupin county? Are there results there?

    Comment by cermak_rd Tuesday, Mar 20, 12 @ 10:56 pm

  29. What is going on with Macoupin County? I wanted to know the final on IL-13 before I went to bed. Gill has closed the margin to 200 votes with 85 percent in, but I am guessing even if Gill takes the lead with the remaining Champaign Co. precincts that Goetten makes it up with whatever happened in Macoupin.

I’m pretty sure Romney has planted his flag so far to the right that he doesn’t remember where the middle is anymore. Somebody more clever said he has all of the bad qualities of Mike Dukakis, George HW Bush, Bob Dole and John Kerry, and I’d add, none of their charisma.

But good for Willard. He killed the conservative movement in Illinois tonight.

    Comment by 47th Ward Tuesday, Mar 20, 12 @ 11:30 pm

  33. Hmm, well, he has the charisma of Dole & Mondale, the governing record problem of Dukakis, and the failure to connect with average people problem of GHW Bush and Kerry.
