“Let’s be serious. We just talked about Medicaid and we have a budget we have to pass, we have to deal with pension stabilization, those issues are far, far higher on the priority list,” Quinn said Thursday.

I support a taxpayer subsidy for a new Wrigley Field, but Quinn is absolutely right. Now isn’t the time. Let’s get the pressing business finished and revisit the Wrigley plan over the summer or in Veto session.

Good for Quinn. The Ricketts wanted a puppy, now they have to take care of it.
The Sox deal is not an excuse. That was and is a horrible deal for taxpayers, subsidizing millionaires who can put up their own money.
And the Cubs aren’t going anywhere, by the way. No leverage. Let Rahm fund it through his alleged private/public bank.

OT, but a great response from Peter Roskam when he was asked by Roll Call whether he was embarassed by some of the recent attention paid to Illinois:
“…It’s a state with a great heritage that just has to live up to that heritage and that potential.”

Keep Wrigley the way it is and don’t waste any of OUR money on it or tie it in to a world series win. Ether case is fine…and safe.

If the Cubs can pay Zambrano $15 million to play in Maimi they can afford to fix their own park.
The Sox from what I heard many years ago wanted to pay off their debt, but the powers that be were happy to get the interest on the money.

But now is the time to spend 10 million dollars on cleaning up the Chicago river which has been a sewer for the last several decades and a couple years are going to make a difference.

Well, that argues pretty strongly for a cleanup.
Ricketts Field is a sewer, too, so maybe they could use that angle.

Wrigley field is one of the great places in the world. The problem is they want use government resources or tax dollars to make it more like the Boston Red Sox stadium. That’s crazy.

The Cubs just spent $20 million buying the McDonald’s across the street from Wrigley.
But now they want tax dollars for Wrigley? Ummmm… no thank you.

Well said by Quinn. There’s no chance the Cubs leave the state, so I can’t see the logic in giving away any taxpayer dollars to Cubs ownership.
