* The US Chamber of Commerce is running this TV ad in the St. Louis market on behalf of Republican congressional candidate Jason Plummer. Rate it

I’m not sure about the size of the buy, but a friend of mine in the area told me he’s seen the ad several times.

    I know … I get it … 30 second ad, Name ID for the Hot Buttons … and this is the Chamber’s ad … just left me wanting, and a bit confused on why I am “calling” to continue …What is Jason continuing?

  4. “The Plan”, “The Plan”, “I’ve got a plan”. Sorry, it kills me. They ALL have a plan. The problem is that even if they really did have a plan….nobody in Washington really gives a hoot…

    These ads go to show just how dumb and uninformed the voters are considered to be…

  5. Plummie is no small business man. Daddy’s is no small business with multiple locations in Illinois and Missouri.

    Daddy’s money is helping Jason’s job creation plan–electing himself.

  6. That Plummer ad has been running almost constantly in the St. Louis TV market for at least the past week (or maybe longer). During primetime I know I see it at least 4 or 5 times in the span of 2 or 3 hours.

  7. I don’t like either of them. the plummer ad looks like it’s cut and paste and really says nothing about him. I’m interested in what his actual “business skills” are and how he’s a “businessman” as opposed to just having a desk and bossing some people around with his dads instructions.

    The schilling ad is bad because again not only is it cut and paste, it also focuses on the size of government as the issue-people care about jobs-not the number of employees at omb, but also because he really does have a chamber of commerce story to tell and one that’s out there they should be telling.

    I don’t even think they’re that convincing to the base. They should ask for their money back.

  8. Last night I caught an old WKRP where Mr. Carlson runs for city council. Les Nessman shows him how to give an empty response that looks better than saying “no comment” while still being devoid of any content. These two ads were exactly what Les recommended. It is sad to think that this stuff works.

    “A” for creating a classic empty suit ad.
    “F” for keeping the political conversation stupid.

    up dad’s business.He looks like the next John
    “America 1st Daly.Schillings ad is just the same old Republican no to everything.

  12. the candidates didn’t create or run these ads. they were done by political consultants in dc who probably can’t find the districts on a map.

    Plummer and his campaign had nothing to do with this ad. Besides, what more could be said about lil’ J.P.?

  15. Republican Bob Schilling is going to need every dime of outside money he can get to fend of the hard charging Democrat Cheri Bustos.

    Schilling is already in full attack mode and looking a dismal polling numbers. Rising star Cheri Bustos is a political landslide.

  17. Shore’s right about the cut-and-paste. The chamber’s probably running basically the same spot all over the country.

    It gets their candidates smiling faces on TV, which is good for them, but the spots themselves are weak.

    If this was the winner, I’d hate to see the options that were rejected.

  18. He’s a clue for the Chamber of Commerce types…businesses don’t “create jobs”….businesses fullfill demands for goods and services that consumers are willing and able to buy. The only time a business hires someone new is because there is a demand for the business service or product that the new employee can contribute to fullfilling. Effective consumer demand drives the economy not business hiring.

  19. Average at best. Nothing terriblly original in either ad. There is no real visual seperation between the negative set up and the positive delivery. Both are kinda whip-lash in their message approach. Plummer needs to be shown in action of some kind. his giant Baby Huey mug isn’t a good approach for them. C grade.

  20. Talking point ads are bleck. I give a “D” to the Plummer ad and a “C” to the Schilling ad - but that’s only because Schilling’s ad features the funny voiceover actor from the Hot Pocket commercials.

  22. Uh, why is the Chamber paying for ads for a guy who can afford to self fund? This makes good business sense, good use of your money? Maybe the reason the economy is struggling is because idiots are in charge of business.
