  1. “This will hurt, but pain will ease over time…” Really? What an evil statement.

  2. So why is it legislation can easily exclude judges? This is like hit the weak, the people we know can’t stop us. How wrong is that and how do they get away with that? This should not effect only the people they select, if we are all under that umbrella then it should effect all or none! While they are busy taking care of this, why don’t they also handle the fact that the state didn’t contribute their fair share and how they need to be held responsible! Why don’t they enforce payment of this contract. Funny how government works or doesn’t. Government is supposed to be the people voice not the politicos voice!

  3. Three Republicans provided the NO votes in committee. Poe, Morrison and Senger.

  4. Speaking in favor of the cost shift, Madigan said, “responsibility for our actions is what we strive to live under. When one person can spend money and send the bill to someone else, that’s not responsibility — that’s un-American.”

Yet the Speaker has been responsible — more than any other person — for decades of underfunding the pension system and spending those state funds on something else. Now Madigan wants to give the bill to the retirees. Now THAT’s un-American!

  5. We know it is hard to mix facts with theater, but someone should explain to Billbaords that all four caucus staffs worked on the pension amendment with the governor’s office all weekened….no last minute surprise ‘boards.
AND let us not overlook that ‘boards does apparently like a cost shift/pay your own
    for community colleges.
small facts, but facts none the less.

  6. Cross seems to appropriately state the obvious one-man legislative branch system, but Cross’ interview was still disappointing. Include all?…where are the judges? Mr. Madigan wants to do teachers in the fall..do we question why? What’s lost is that the debate is no longer about the crimes (the larger issues to fix the spending problems)…the public employees (unions) have been declared guilty. The debate instead is now only the method of punishment. And that there General Assembly is gonna stick to it and fix ‘em, by gum! Pretty slick.

  7. Ya’ know, the few times the Speaker does do public interviews he can explain the detailed history of every decision that he has made since he became Speaker back when Lincoln was the minority leader. I’m sure he probably remembers the history of why the State pays for teacher’s pensions but doesn’t want to say it. I’m not buying his, “nobody can explain it to me” excuse.
