That U of I president story burns me up.
I hate the way that the state has decimated higher education funding support in the last 10 years and I have said so many times in commenting on this blog and I even helped out U of I with their alumni outreach letters to legislators when prompted by e-mail on occasion, but when a jerk like Hogan sets himself up to have an official resignation 3 months after he really quits working just to collect an extra $200,000 for his hurt feelings or to have a “more graceful exit” as one of the faculty who got him fired put it, and where expecting him to not get that extra $200,000 in compensation would just be too punitive for the delicate academic sensibilities of another professor, then I really can’t blame the legislators from ending the flow of money to my alma mater.
And on top of that this guy is getting an extra one-year sabbatical pay of $285,000? So all told this guy is walking away with $485,000 for doing NOTHING.
That’s fall semester tuition for EIGHTY-TWO incoming U of I freshman plus a little more money going to one guy to soothe his bruised ego and hurt feelings over getting canned. How insane is that?
