Question of the day

Posted in:

* The setup

Gov. Pat Quinn and Mayor Rahm Emanuel will address the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., next month.

Emanuel is scheduled to speak Sept. 4, the first night of the three-day convention, a Democratic source said. Democratic officials did not say what day or time the governor and mayor will speak. Emanuel spokeswoman Sarah Hamilton declined to comment. As President Barack Obama’s first White House chief of staff, Emanuel is well-versed in the early successes and failures of the administration. […]

Quinn’s name was not listed among the latest wave of speakers, but he’s got a speaking role, according to campaign staff.

* The Question: What do you think will be the theme of Gov. Pat Quinn’s convention speech?

  8. Forgive the lack of snark, but I think this would be a great opportunity for the Governor to talk about fresh water and its critical importance to our economy. When the GOP talks about the handcuffs of government regulation, they’re talking about things later water purity standards. PQ could talk about the Dems’ history of keeping water safe and clean, and our responsibility to make sure our children and grandchildren do not perish from thirst.

    Comment by RNUG Tuesday, Aug 21, 12 @ 10:16 am

  30. Will Pat Quinn be addressing the stalls in the restroom while Rahm speaks to the delegates? I mean seriously, why would you even acknowledge this individual as a fellow Democrat when you are trying to carry more than Cook county in Illinois. He is stomping all over the Democratic base, he is asking the IPI and other conservative organizations for their assistance in breaking the unions. He is about as far from motivating as you can get. I would do to him the same as they did to Blago. Send him someplace else.

    Count on him to drone on with his inane remarks about everyopne in and nobody left out, at the same time as he gives some employees raises and takes them away from others; at the same time as he promotes programs for vets but wants to cut the pay of other vets by 10%. His whole Land of Lincoln and jobs cliche’s when he plans on cutting thousands of state jobs, but only outside of Cook county. Where is his appeal to the elderly and poor when he is cutting Senior Care and other programs, but gives millions to big business. Apparently the Democratic National Committee did not watch the reception he got on Governor’s Day. They want that at the National Convention?

    I bet Mitt and Paul are doing handsprings!

    Pat Quinn is to the Democratic Convention what Hurricane Isaac will be to the Republican Convention, a big wind that does damage.

  40. Let’ see here. First off you have the DNC holding the convention in a place Labor is really happy about. It being such a Union friendly place and all. Next you bring in someone like Pat Quinn who is tight with Labor to speak. My guess is his speech will be the one about how the Democrats are the defenders of the working class.
