* The Daily Herald appeared to have been the first media outlet to see the new Bob Dold campaign video. Its take was decidedly polite…
U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, for the first time since his stroke in late January, has hit the campaign trail.
The Highland Park Republican — clad in a bomber jacket, his gray hair blowing in the wind — is shown in his North Shore neighborhood with his 10th Congressional District successor, Republican Rep. Bob Dold, of Kenilworth. The video, put to music, is depicted as one stop in Dold’s “working together” John McCain-style bus tour.
Kirk and Dold are pictured talking and laughing throughout the minute-long spot, though just what they’re saying is unclear.
The sentence “Though just what they’re saying is unclear” isn’t explained in the article. The Sun-Times explains…
There’s music playing over the video, so you can’t hear what the two men are discussing.

Great tune. But it would’ve been nice to actually hear Sen. Kirk’s voice.

Saw the Dold bus last night outside the Ogilvie Center. It was blasting Allman Bros. — loud — right there on Madison Street. Love that Dickey Betts and his big red guitar.
Hand-lettered signs on the Dold bus included:
“Teachers for Dold”
“Women for Dold”
“Protecting the Environment”
I half expected to see Dold, Willie Nelson, Ken Kesey and Pres. Obama emerge from the bus in a cloud of smoke. It was trippy, daddio.

I would imagine that if Sen. Kirk was at a point in his recovery where he was comfortable speaking publicly, he would do so in this ad. Am I right that he’s still yet to do an actual interview with a member of the media?

Kirk’s lip movement appears to look much smoother than the sets of videos he released months ago. My guess? He’s back in the Senate come January. I would think his first big “public” appearance would be the Illinois State Society Inaugural Ball.

Cincy, I’ve found that guys usually like the “pointier” cars, which–while I like them, too, remind me of a big slice of cheese. Women seem to prefer cars that are curvier. My ex-boyfriends always used to buy Vettes; I liked my MGB. Go figure, but it seems to make sense.

Rich, a Friday open car blog post might be fun sometime. I’m a big fan of TGUK too and it frosts me that the US version is so lame.
I love all the Aston DBs and that newer Vantage is just gorgeous.
However, remember that in Britain the beer is warm because the fridges have Lucas electrics.

Love the Vantage, too. Top Gear points out that underneath a Jaguar is mostly common to the DBs at a much lower price.

Cincy, I bought mine around the same time just after high school, but never had any problems with it. (Considering how tough I am on my cars, that was probably short of a miracle.) I always liked Jaguars, too, but I hear that the older models (which are my favorites) are tough to maintain.

Oh, I take that back. The radiator went bust on the expressway right after I bought it off of the showroom floor. It was fixed the next day, and the car behaved itself from that point forward (except for having to replace the clutch just once).

Mark Kirk served the 10th for years and represented the district well. I’m glad to see Dold following in his footsteps and representing the very Independent-minded constituents there well.

Actually don’t mind the US version of Top Gear, actually one of the few UK shows they have ‘Americanized’ that works. It’s different, but nothing wrong with that.

Several things that stick out
-the color of the senator’s hair. When he ran for senate it was brown, now it’s white/gray. I don’t know hair, but it’s striking.
-the patch on the left part of the jacket is purposely blurred but the others aren’t.
-the guy in the first part looks a bit like rep john porter but isn’t and is too short to be him. Porter is still the most popular politician in that area.
-it will fire up kirk nation and help dold close with the kirk democrats he needs.
-it’s a hard !@#@! you gut shot at schneider who was a kirk donor and until he ran for congress one of those kirk democrats.
-dold ran as a conservative in his 2010, his transformation into a moderate who has been constantly on message has been one of the less appreciated elements of this campaign. He has worked very hard. If walsh had 15% of that discpline he’d be in better shape.
-With Ben Nelson, Scott Brown, Olympia Snowe, Joe Lieberman, Dick Lugar, Kent Conrad and most of the other better known moderate senators headed for defeat or retirement Senator Kirk and his health are going to be major national stories for the next few years. This blog rightly stays away from those national dc issues, but it’s going to put him and the state on the spot. Almost like a political thriller.
