Heavy voting in Sangamon County. I was 1127 at about 11:30 in a 3 precinct polling place. Seems was up from 2008.

Newspapers report Sangamon County turnout to exceed 75%. I was number 622 at 11 am on Southwest Side. Election worker says this is the most people she’s seen in 10 years.

Typical floundering TP. One of them got booted out of the student center about two weeks ago during early voting. Tried to convince me to vote TP. Do which she got a condensed lecture on Duverger’s Law (Moral of the story, do not approach an American Government PhD student and ask him to vote TP).

Mama - I took a close friend to vote early in Springfield last week while she was in labor. She didn’t think she’d be up for leaving the house afterward so I took her to the county building when her contractions were 7-8 minutes apart. 4 hours later she had a new baby boy. If Dr. Gill wins by one he’s going to owe her a big thank you.

Waukegan/North Chicago area tracking a little lower than 2008 turnout. Hard to do firm comparisson due to precinct redrawing. Steady but not huge.

Light rain, voted shortly after noon at Spfld Cap 071. Two other precincts also in the same building. Busy but not crowded; didn’t have to wait but a minute to vote. When I turned my ballot in, turnout for all three precincts was 772.

Same thing for me in Sangamon County. I vote in Springfield and it was packed. Not sure any of the three Dems. running county wide have a chance, but for the first time in years, the Sangamon County Dems. have been on radio for weeks and have gone for the throat of the Sanamon County GOP ticket.

Cold, drizzling, yet strong African American turnout. Many elderly in wheelchairs and using walkers, voting despite the weather. Mayfield’s people electioneering right in front of my polling place’s doors.

Heavy turnout on southwest side of SPI. AA was # 1407 in 2 precinct “cluster” at 1:00. Veteran judges say turnout highest in their memory.
GMAB, for what it’s worth, I suspect the Sangamon County Dems’ mudslinging on the radio will spectacularly backfire.
Of course, this is the same group that puts up a third generation hack for judge who calls himself the “outsider.”

Secret Service detail tends to tie up traffic, you see.
He might not’ve been planning to rally GOP voters so much as delay / distract Dem voters.

Average turnout so far in NW burbs. Was high early vote turnout but when I voted at lunchtime the EJs said total number of voters (early + election day) was about par for the course.
Good mix of Dem and GOP palm cards in various voters’ hands in what used to be ruby red territory.

Arthur you are most likely right but at least the Dems. made the local GOP candidates do something more than the usual, “high, I’m a Republican who lives in Sangamon County thank you for electing me”.

Just got back from polls in Capitol Township 47 (by Lake Springfield) …NEVER seen it this busy - especially at 2:30PM! I think i was voter #1352 (3 precincts here)

My sleepy little polling place in Godfrey-Madison County was alive at 6:10 this morning. Official there said it was the busiest she had ever seen it.

Voting seems heavier along the lake than I’ve seen it. On top of that, it seems like we have a lot of inexperienced judges and on a possibly related note, a lot of equipment problems.

The picture of the polling place near Mechanicsburg on the front page of today’s SJR also made CNN’s website last presidential election, obviously different photo, but same polling place. Does anyone know exactly where this polling place is?

I called a friend in Carbondale. A team from one of the state legislative campaigns was reportedly dispatched to the campus precincts. They found judges were requiring two forms of identification.

100 unemployed union electricians asked by BA in NW suburbs to volunteer to help at polls in one senate district. 3 said yes.

HDems win Willis, Sente, Moylan, Kifowit, Conroy, and Yingling. Cross’ leadership is challanged but no one else wants the job in the end.

Went to local voting place at UofI extension office.
Same judges for every vote. No ID needed as long signature matched. Nice spread of snacks. The judges insisted people take some since they had too much. In/out in 5 minutes. At least 50% of candidates had no opponent. My professional estimate is their campaign costs were pretty low. Celebration and acceptance speech not needed.

Voted in Moline around 4:15. Same place two sets of family members had voted earlier in the day. Whether 6 a.m., 8 a.m, or 4 p.m., it’s been very, very busy. I should note that this is a new polling place for us, so it would be apples and oranges to compare. Something tells me they’ve cut down on the number of polling places, combined some, and therefore it’s busier than in past years. Again, apples and oranges, but regardless, nice turnout here.
