Bond rating history

Posted in:

* The Illinois Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability’s latest monthly report includes a history of Illinois’ bond ratings dating back to 1973…

So, the last time Illinois’ bond ratings were upgraded was in June of 2000 - but only one agency did so. You have to go back to the Thompson administration to see the last Illinois AAA rating.

  1. And the American Autmobile Association still wouldn’t loan us gas without a deposit for the can.

  3. Gee, Rich, I thought bond ratings were a big deal, for all the sturm und drang whenever the agencies make a move.

  4. Never knew about Fitch before today.

It’s half owned by Hearst, too.

  6. Not the least surprised.
Illinois has been sliding a hell of a long time and has not shown any inclination to stop believing in Big Steel, Big John, Big Sears and Big Government. Progress moved to damn Texas around 1982…

  8. Props to John Filan. Only one-one and a half hits on his watch. The big hit, of course, was when the $10 billion in Pension bonds were issued.
As an aside, I can’t believe I just wrote that.

  9. Props to John Filan - seriously?!?!? Too bad what happens on someone’s “watch” doesn’t always have an immediate impact. Something we all should have learned by now.

  10. Illinois lost its AAA rating two months into Michael J. Madigan’s first term as Speaker of the Illinois House, and has never regained it.
