* Robin Kelly has a new TV ad. I’ll tell you if I find out how much is behind this ad and where it’s playing. Rate it

* Script…

Robin Kelly:

It’s heartbreaking.

There are kids dying everyday.

Every one of us has been touched in some way.

We all need to say enough is enough.

Announcer:

Robin Kelly has spent her career fighting to get deadly weapons off our streets.

In the legislature she worked with Barack Obama to crack down on illegal gun sales.

In Congress Kelly will keep taking on the NRA.

Fighting to ban assault weapons and outlaw high capacity ammunition clips.

Robin Kelly:

If we succeed in saving even one life, then it’s worth it.

  1. Kelly’ team has found the issue that separates her by leaps and bounds from her opponents. Just like a hot shooter in a basketball game, you keep giving them the ball until the defense figures out how to stop them.

  2. Not sure how Hutchinson is going to differentiate herself from Robin and Debbie. When she goes up, I hope she realizes that featuring Toni Prekwinkle just won’t help that much.

Robin is first on the air, with two negative ads hitting her opponents. Combine that with her poll that has her in the lead and help from Daily Kos and she is in the best position of the three.

Hutchinson clearly recognizes that which is why she is no going Blagojecvich negative on Kelly. However, a mailer vs. what’s up on the air is going to make a lot of difference.

  3. It seems like Kelly learned a lot from her run for Treasurer. She is in this to win it. If she doesn’t come out on top, it will not be because she failed to go all out on the campaign.

  4. She’s all in on the issue. Will the other side put up money against her?

  5. Is it worth it if you “succeed in LOSING one life?”

  6. Hutchinson already abandoned her pro NRA stand, so she has to minimize her change in position and find something else to talk about.

Problem: from airports to military occupations to tax breaks for Sears & CME, she is probably identical to Robin on just about every other issue. Maybe Robin wouldn’t have joined Toi in the adoption of Rick Perry’s Lap Dance Tax for IL.

  7. Robin Kelly’s winning strategy: Keep hammering the wedge.

  8. It’s her “I’m against the Iraq War, while everyone else was for it.” moment.

  9. Sheez…is she friends with NY City’s Mayor BLOOMberg and his SuperPAC, which keeps blasting (no pun intended) at former Congresswoman Halvorson every night on Chicagoland TV? If not, she sure is gleefully piggy-backing off of the headway that Ad (at no cost to her) has apparently made in cutting into Ms. Halvorson’s previous lead (or tenuous lead, if in reality, the former U.S. Rep. even HAS that anymore)….

  10. Thankfully I have no personal stake in this election but unfortunately it is shaking out exactly as I had feared and predicted it would- a one issue race. Well, at least it’s good that there are no other important and pressing national matters or personal character traits to consider when voters in the second are selecting a new representative in congress.

  11. If I’m her campaign manager, I saturate the market with this and try to convince the district that the initials of Debbie Halvorsen and Toi Hutchinson are N-R-A.

I am interested to see any independent poll of the district conducted this weekend to see what effects Kelly’s campaign is having. She sure seems to be defining her opponents effectively using an issue of both local and national interest.

  12. Toi has to take that mailer she did and get it up on the airwaves now. Bright Start, SUV, Alexi — throw mud and lots of it.

I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure that Toi supported the CME/Sears tax breaks which I do not believe Robin would have been in support of considering that they turned around and immediately laid off more people after getting that break. So I guess that would be at least one other difference besides the gun issue.

  14. “I do not believe Robin would have been in support of considering that they turned around and immediately laid off more people….”

We can believe whatever we want, but it’s easy to be against it now. My guess is that, if she had been in Springfield at the time, Kelly would have gone along with the breaks for CME & Sears, just like so many other Dems.

In the upcoming 20 days or so, I’ll be surprised if we hear much about anything but guns.
