Weirdest withdrawal ever

* From a press release…

KEVIN HANLEY RESIGNS FROM TRUSTEE RACE
Cites Personal Conflict with Presidential Candidate as Reason

RIVER FOREST, ILL, March 20, 2013—River Forest Village Board trustee candidate Kevin Hanley announced tonight he is withdrawing his name for consideration for the April 9 village election citing a personal conflict with presidential candidate Cathy Adduci. Before a packed house at Tom and Marty Dwyer’s residence, Hanley outlined the reason for his withdraw.

“Last week Cathy Adduci told a lie and it almost cost me a close, personal friendship in the village,” says Hanley. “It truly upset my wife and the possibility of working with Adduci and taking time away from my family and knowing I could never trust her is not right thing for the residents.

“This has shaken me to the core and I have been wrestling with this decision since I learned of her actions. I cannot associate myself with her when I don’t know when she would be telling the truth or when she wouldn’t be.

“I absolutely support Mike Gibbs, Lissa Druss Chirstman and Tom Dwyer, Jr. They are the right candidates for the future of our village.”

* Follow up in the Forest Leaves

He declined to elaborate on what the alleged lie was about, saying “it involved other relationships” that he would not bring into the controversy.

“It’s personal. I’m sorry for being vague. I don’t want to get into the details.”

Adduci said she was “shocked” by Hanley’s withdrawal and his comments, which she called “almost defamatory.”

“I’m mystified, and I am disturbed,” she said Thursday morning. “I don’t know what the lie is, I don’t know what the issues are. I have no idea of what Kevin’s talking about.”

Adduci called Wednesday night’s development “bizarre.”

“I’ve been on the (village) board six years. Even in the most tumultuous times, I’ve never seen this.”

* And another article in the Wednesday Journal

Hanley is running on the Pride in River Forest slate, which includes presidential candidate Mike Gibbs and trustees Lissa Druss Christman and Tom Dwyer Jr. He told Gibbs Tuesday and decided Wednesday to resign.

“I don’t want to be elected then need to resign because of a lack of trust. It’s just not fair to River Forest residents,” he said. “My skin is not thick enough. I feel like I’m letting my team down. I believe (the slate candidates) would be the best choices.”

Hanley said he tried to remove his name from the ballot but the date for that has passed. This means he has the potential to still be elected. If elected, Hanley said he’ll resign, regardless of which candidate wins.

I’m trying to do what’s right for residents,” he said, saying he hopes voters will vote for those who still want to run. “I’m hoping I’m not (elected),” he said.

  3. If he files a formal withdrawal, he shouldn’t be able to be “elected” even if it is too late to remove his name from the ballot (there’s a very old Illinois Supreme Court case to that effect)

  4. Couldn’t he just work with her but never trust her? Most of the rest of us have to work with such an arrangement.

  5. Well don’t be surprised if State Rep. Fred Crespo’s golden boy resigns from the Hanover Township Race. He is believed to be on medical leave from the Illinois State police and campaigning day and night to be elected. If he wins, (heaven help us) we believe the stage is being set for him to run for Hanover Township Democratic committeeman to level the playing field against Mike Noland’s ally in Schaumburg.

  7. Quite a little Peyton Place they’ve been having for the last few years amongst the tall oaks and stately mansions of River Forest, population 11,000.

The village board have been at each others’ throats for years. Highlights of public meetings used to be the old village president and even-older Ed Hanrahan (of Fred Hamptom infamy), screaming insults and corruption allegations at each other during public comment time.

Sadly, former resident Paul Harvey is no longer around to tell us the rest of the story regarding this latest intrigue. The scuttlebutt in the watering holes on Madison are split between: Ronan and contracts (he’s still married, I guess, to Adducci) and the other guy and new condo elevator rules that would mean big money to someone.

So sad and un-River-Forest-like to air the dirty laundry in public. This sort of thing never happened back when Accardo was running the show. He liked things quiet, and he got what he liked.

  8. oooh, more movie script material. I’m loving the continuing saga of the Buffalo Grove official who was removed via recall ( I believe) and her calls to local police re her protection, she’s in danger, targeted, all seems way off. oh, and her sex toy business….not kidding!…which she seems to mention oh so often.

hoping there is a township thread, cause the BGA was working on that issue and money.

  9. Picked up a copy of the Romeoville Bugle while dining at Culver’s Saturday. It was the Mayoral Preview edition, and I wish you could have seen the synopsis of the two candidates on Page 3 (it doesn’t appear online).

It had a list of endorsements. Noak’s list was about a paragraph-and-a-half…several unions, several other county government officials, etc.

    McMichael’s list: “Coach Mike Ditka.”

    Almost choked on my butterburger.

  10. Have to say the race for Alderman in my old ward is actually very issue and ‘I will deal with this issue’ focused.

    Kind of cool

  11. Fmr. AZ tea partier Ron Drake is self-immolating in his bid for AH Mayor. He just announced he has “maverick” John McCain’s endorsement - kind of werid since his outsider status is probably one of his biggest weak points.

He’s also being ripped to shreds in formerly very tame local online news site that has never really stepped in like this on another issue/candidate — http://bit.ly/YDFSAD.

  12. This story beckons the Comment that some folks a part of or venturing into it need to be reminded of: Politics IS an Animal and when it bites you…AND IT WILL at one time or another and the frequency pf which is connected to the degree to which you are involved or associated with it…it can hurt–and really BAD! Put differently, the HEAT in the Kitchen WILL RISE, and when it does, ya either decide to sweat, or stick it out for as long as it takes (you may eventually be allowed or get around to opening a Window in there to cool it off at least somewhat)…!
