* At a recent forum, the New York Times’ Monica Davey posed a question to the panelists, which included Attorney General Lisa Madigan and GOP political consultant Christine Dudley

Davey questioned the panelists about the notion of women’s “likability” as they gain power.

“Everybody loves me,” Madigan joked.

Dudley responded, “Wait until next year,” which caused the audience to roar with laughter.

It’s rumored that Madigan may challenge Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn in the 2014 gubernatorial primary election.

  1. As long as we are not going to “Fire Madigan”…

The question we in the ILGOP need to ask is…

“When we go after Lisa Madigan, and when Lisa Madigan goes after Our Nominee, can we make the better case when we are going negative?”

If a “Madigan 2014″ is able to paint Our Nominee as “Out of touch”, “Extreme”, “Not a relection of Illinois”…

And all we “got” is …

“Did you know Lisa’s dad is Mike Madigan?”

We will be “Burkett-ed”, and Our Nominee can concede and say, “Congratulations, Lisa, now you are ‘An Executive’…” Even thou the AG is in the Executive, but I digress…

Going “negative” is one thing … going “negative” and it sticks, especially at a better clip than your Nominee, then you are cooking with gas …

    Food for thought…

  2. I suspect most men in statewide politics anywhere, with the exception of guys like Jesse White, are envious of the numbers Lisa Madigan has put up the last couple of general elections — 72% and 65%, respectively.

How’s that “Princess Lisa” and “Daddy’s Little Girl” stuff working as a strategy?

  3. It’s rumored? Wow - don’t get too over the top NYT…

  4. BTW, I heard from a political independent that was there that Lisa was just on fire - totally charming and funny.

  5. Although I am not a fan of PQ, the most popular position on almost any football team is the backup quarterback. Lisa’s poll numbers are probably at an all time high right now.

  6. It’s rumored that the Sun rises in the East. Jeez.

  7. I’ve heard many fine Democrats speak over the years, Hartigan, Dixon, Simon and others. Only two had/have the capacity to change a room. The current President and Lisa Madigan. She is smart, funny and likeable. Those qualities will more than offset the negatives associated with her father and go a long way in having some voters look past any policy disagreements they may have with her. The more the Republicans suggest she has only gotten where she is because of her father will only lead to one of the largest gender electoral windfalls in her favor. The suburban GOP women’s vote will rally around her in epic numbers.

Comment by Tommydanger Tuesday, May 14, 13 @ 3:05 pm

  8. Stones, those poll numbers of hers are based on her AG tenure, not her status as a PQ replacement. They’ve held steady for quite some time.

  9. So Lisa Madigan is on the same level as President Obama? Pot isnt legal yet, friend.

  10. What’s the word for when you have zero expectations for someone and they then fail to catastrophically disappoint you?

    Oh, that’s right… “loves”.

  11. Her favorables won’t stay that high if she’s elected governor of Illinois, that’s for sure.

But the word that keeps coming back to Lisa is respect: even if you don’t like what she stands for, people respect her work ethic and her general air of professionalism. People who genuinely like what Pat Quinn stands for, still don’t respect him. George Ryan was a crook and yet for many partial sympathizers he still had a partial aura of respect to the bitter end.

Lisa won’t be always liked, but she could be one of the most respected gubs Illinois has had in a long time. Which is what should worry the GOP like heck going into 2014.

  12. The hilite of the GOPie strategy is to put DeadBeatJoe on the “short list” to be new GOPie honcho…..everyone falls on the ground laughing until Nov. 2014 and Rauner sleezes his way into office. Brilliant

  13. When she runs for Gov, what will be Ms. Madigan’s top 3 accomplishments as AG? Or as the talking head pundits say what is her “narrative”?

Comment by Meanderthal Tuesday, May 14, 13 @ 4:04 pm

  14. The only people who respected george ryan in the middle or at the end were as crooked as he was.

Comment by Jim Tuesday, May 14, 13 @ 4:04 pm

  15. Madigan’s likability is easy to understand. She has splashy press conferences for stuff that sound good, even if it has nothing to do with the Attorney General’s office (like closed captioning for deaf movie attendees) but goes AWOL when something bad happens or is embarrassing (like public corruption) and sends her people to say that (insert topic) isn’t a responsibility of the Attorney General.

  16. ===what will be Ms. Madigan’s top 3 accomplishments as AG?===

    1) Election. 2) Re-election. 3) Re-re-election.

    Why is that an “Accomplishment?

Name all her “worthy” opponents that the GOP put up against her …no fair using the “Search” key!

I am pretty sure Lisa’s “narrative” will find …”something” to say.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, May 14, 13 @ 4:30 pm

  17. “She’s likeable enough.” enough with the word likeable.

is that a panel of white women only?

Comment by Amalia Tuesday, May 14, 13 @ 4:31 pm

  18. She has not utilized the AG’s office well. She is personally nice, but i think this Emperor has no clothes.

Comment by Curmudgeon Tuesday, May 14, 13 @ 4:33 pm

  19. I beg to differ Jim. I always thought he was a crook (even before he was elected) but respected George Ryan’s skills as a political leader and deal-maker. He was a guy who knew how to put people in a room to get things done in ways that Jim Edgar and dare I say PQ could only dream of. I know a lot of people who feel the same way that are neither crooks nor supporters of crooks.

Comment by Chicago Cynic Tuesday, May 14, 13 @ 4:34 pm

  20. We will be “Burkett-ed”, and Our Nominee can concede and say, “Congratulations, Lisa, now you are ‘An Executive’…”

  21. - Just Me -,

If you can make a “negative” that Lisa has not done enough about “something” and its in the perview of the Ofice, have at it.

Candidates try that all the time, both sides, Dems and Republicans, Jim Ryan and Lisa…

Understanding what the AG office does, is a better way to find the “holes” to attack her negatively. You “attack”, and it turns out you have no clue as to what you are talking about, the “free press” to cover it washes away, and the “truth” finders in Ads will eat you alive.

But, have at it. I hope My Party looks at this very strategically and surgically and done methodically. Otherwise, just shovel money in the chimney, and “Fire Madigan”!

  23. Based on her key remark, Ms. Dudley is a WISE woman, indeed–(oh, and Lisa, based on HER remark, OBviously is on some sort of a MAjor Ego trip…well, you just go ahead and run for Illinois GOVernor in a highly-contested Democratic Party Primary, Lisa, and watch how fast THAT changes, when she’s served up a WHOLE lot of “Humble Pie” to eat on a repeated basis, as her many flaws and shortcomings as a candidate continue to be revealed and her supposed greatness is CONstantly challenged by both the Media and the Public–watch and learn, Sister)…!

  25. Jim, from you lips / God’s ears but am only reporting what I’ve observed. He has defenders in Springfield to this day …

  26. Chris Dudley redefines the word figurehead. As a Republican activist, Dudley spends much of her time appearing on panels where the presence of a nominal Republican is required and not too much else. Her title and position are simply a salaried sinecure.

She is quite liberal and seldom seems too well informed on GOP policies. If she would retire, I doubt her absence would be missed more than a precinct captain or a polling place judge.
