  1. AP story on the right has Chicago graduation rate at 63%. That’s quite a bump from past years.

  2. Good catch @wordslinger. Definitely good news. Up from 61% last year and 58% the year before.

    Unfortunately, I just learned that CPS uses a 5 year graduation rate in their press releases and have been for the past 14 years, which is not in accordance with state law.

    From the SunTimes
    “However, the release did not explain that CPS has only been calculating five-year rates, based on how many freshmen graduate within five years, for 14 years. The state requires public schools to calculate a four-year rate for official counts sent home to parents.”

    Would love to see that 4 year graduation rate. Hopefully it is showing the same sort of progress, but one has to wonder: just how bad must it be?

  3. Am I right to sense a looming showdown over the enforcement of liquor licenses that require licensee to make 51% of receipts off of food?
