The Pontiac Republican made the announcement via Twitter, adding that a news conference is planned for Thursday morning in Chicago. Kim is an attorney from Northbrook, who ran for attorney general in 2010, losing to incumbent Lisa Madigan.
Rutherford added that the lieutenant governor would have a unique and substantive role in the Rutherford administration.
“(Kim) is someone that the public would feel comfortable with being governor if I was incapacitated,” Rutherford tweeted in an earlier hint of his runing mate choice.

Thanks for staying on it Barton. This dude is pretty boring, but I think he’s probably better than Kay Hatcher who would have gotten you nothing.
Hopefully this guy still has contacts from running statewide. But from what I’ve heard, he didn’t work all that hard.
I expect a few more announcements over the next week.

Rutherford walks the walk of seeking to build a more diverse Illinois GOP. Good on him.
Not that Kim is a token: he has an impressive business background. And he sure had guts to take on the thankless task of running against Lisa last time out.
In these times where there is a raging debate over the contributions of immigrants, Kim is a walking, talking example of someone who has taken advantage of America’s opportunities and given back through work and service.
The guy’s a partner in the law firm of Rosenberg, Kim and Jiminez — now that’s America baby!

Does he pick someone from the ‘burbs (to offset city ties) a woman, a downstater, a whack job (to offset his lib ties)
Maybe he will announce a referendum or like the Cubs once did a College of Lite Govs!

I’m not sure I get this pick. Kim is probably a nice, accomplished guy, but what does he really bring to the table? Votes? Not really except maybe from the Asian-American community but I don’t know how many votes that is in a GOP primary. Money? No, unless, again, the Asian community ponies up in support of an Asian candidate. Excitement? No.

Kim is competent and Low-key. He is an economic development-oriented lawyer I have worked with. Will be particularly attractive to ethnic minority populations — something that Rutherford already has some advantages with. Perhaps a move to get ethnic Democrats to cross-over?

Steve is a solid guy. I presume he was vetted fully and there is nothing that is going to hurt the team. This is where these LG nominations are interesting…nobody cares unless its a slow news day or the individual in question does something stupid! But Steve is a quality person and when Dillard announces Jil Tracy I will say the same…she is quality as well
