This cash on hand for Duckworth was somewhat of a surprise.
[Democratic congressional candidate Tammy] Duckworth’s campaign reported she had more than $900,000 in her campaign fund after raising $830,000 from April through June. She’s raised a total of $1.9 million since getting into the race last December, one of the top totals in the nation. Roskam’s camp said he will report having $1.3 million on hand through June in the finance reports due Saturday.
Congresswoman Bean is also doing well, but McSweeney is recovering.
Rep. Melissa Bean, D-10th, ended the quarter with a whopping $2.17 million warchest, compared to $471,000 for the GOP nominee, businessman David McSweeney. Mr. McSweeney did narrowly out-raise her in the recent three-month period, $604,000 to $548,000. Most of Mr. McSweeney’s funds earlier in the year had come from himself, but he said he has made no additional donations to himself since winning the March Republican primary. Ms. Bean, who voted to lower trade barriers with Central America, received substantial donations from big-business groups.
Seals isn’t doing too badly.
In the north suburban 10th District, Democrat Dan Seals reported raising $391,000 in the quarter, with $508,000 in cash on hand as of June 30.
But his opponent, Congressman Mark Kirk raised $672,062 and had $1,859,582 on hand.

I’ll just go ahead and say it. I much rather prefer Illinois’s unlimited campaign finance laws than silly $2100 limit federal laws.

Where can we find out where Duckworth’s money came from? I want to get my “She’s owned by BIG ” posts ready for the election season.
I will, of course, assume that most of that money came from outside Illinois anyway.

the one thing duckworth/rahm knows how to do is raise money. so how many doors (what is the current number) is it that roskam brags about knocking on in the sixth???
kirk will need that money, because seals has definitely reached the threshold to be competitive. no one’s afraid to contribute to dan seals’ campaign — so can *he* get a commercial with obama? duckworth’s got one, and she’ll lose. shouldn’t seals have one, too?

Did anyone else take a look a the Bean - McSweeney numbers? McSweeney reported $471,000 on hand, but also $387,000 in debt! (not counting personal loans from the primary)
This leaves him with about $90,000 net after bills. Can this be true?

Turns out Major Duckworth wanted to, but the VA would not pony up for cash to adapt a house to meet her needs. I’m not sure you heard. She had a tough time in Iraq and now has some problems with mobility.
One reason to vote for Tammy: She will make sure our government takes care of our vets.

Speedy, if you took about twenty seconds to do research instead of ansking a seriously obtuse question about where to find wheree Duckworth’s money comes from, you would know to check the FEC database.

wow, that’s news. i wonder why she was telling people that she didn’t want to leave her home (which is in the 8th) because her friends and family had spent so much time and money customizing it for her needs? shouldn’t lynn sweet know that the va actually turned down her request to rebuild a different house (one in the district)? what a scoop!

Making her disability an issue?
If you consider “The poor treatment that American vets receive” to be making her disability an issue, then I agree.
The way the B-Team treats American soldiers is a shame, and it is an issue.

Sniping aside, I am impressed with Duckworth’s numbers. Emanuel and Pelosi are working wonders across the country and are outraising the GOP. However, I still don’t that will mean much in a Congressional race. If Roskam can successfully make this race into a localized marathon, he will win. He is not that far down in the coffers to make him helpless come November 7th. Roskam’s best weapon at this point is to try and paint the Dems and Duckworth as merely being tax raisers, which would work well with Blago’s lack of popularity and the continuing cost of buying and owning a home in the suburbs.

You can’t talk about the fact Maj. Duckworth lives a few minutes outside the district and not talk about why she continues to live in that home rather than move and retrofit a new one.
For that matter, you’re talking about pots and kettles considering Roskam also ran from outside a district several years ago, and that instance was for purely political reasons rather than any other rationale like needing to live in a retrofitted home. (Roskam is more conservative than Biggert and wanted to replace her moderate position with his much more conservative stance but to do so he ran against her in the primary from outside her district.)

NW Burbs, I don’t care where she gets her money or where she lives, those are non issues in this race. So I’m not sure where you think I made an issue out of it.
What bothers me is the free pass she gets because of her disability. That’s all. I’m looking forward to the debates, where we can hear what they each have to say on the issues.

The “free pass” comments are paranoid and/or delusional. She doesn’t get a free pass from anybody. If I know Republicans, they are going to Swift Boat her, like they did Max Cleland. A cheap hack like Roskam is going to question the patriotism of Major Duckworth.
Luckily, Illinois isn’t Georgia and people here will not tolerate that sort of stuff.

Duckworth has (690) slightly more than 1/2 as many individuals contributing, a lot seem to be outside of the 6th and in Chicago. It looks like just under 45% are from outside the 6th.

have you ever heard of mike madigan? illinois not only tolerates “that sort of stuff,” it’s central to many successful people’s career here.
but i think we’ve established that skeeter doesn’t understand republicans (or their campaign tactics).
personally, i’d be shocked if roskam questioned duckworth’s patriotism. otoh, i have no doubt that he will utilize the same tactics employed in georgia…

The attacking of Senator Max in Georgia was despicable. What a shame that the RNC and its Christian conservative base drew up attack ads against a war hero and a triple-amputee. For shame. If Roskam does the same I hope he gets stomped…and this is coming from a hard R…

I seem to remember Democrats blaming Bush for an African American being killed in Texas while he was governor.

Yes, Bush was Birded or Byrded by the NAACP. Funny how the 2 of the three guys were on Death Row, but that wasn’t good enough for critics. They still wanted the goofs charged for a hate crime.
If Roskam attacks her service, I will not walk for him. But according to many Duckworth staffers here, anything short of donating $1000 is attacking her service. Questioning judgement is one thing, questioning service is another.

Duckworth will not win in DuPage, which are the majority of voters in the Sixth District. People in towns like ELmhurst, Bensenville, Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Bloomingdale and Addison DO NOT vote demorcatic for congressional races, especailly for a Cook County Dem, as she is beinglabed as. She will get votes from Cook, in places like Rolling Meadows, Elk Grove, and Schaumburg, but not enuff to win the race.

“conventional wisdom” already is that democrats aren’t supportive of the military — exaggerating a dem vet’s experience feeds that perception…

Pete, her record does not need to be exaggerated. Her service stands on it’s own. Roskam has legislative experience, she does not, his true views are now, hers are not; Roskam is not being handled by CHciago dems or anyone else as much as she is.

Let us do a quick comparison:
Major Tammy Duckworth: Iraqi war vet who lost both of her legs in combat.
Peter Roskam: Sleazy ambulance-chasing personal injury lawyer who never served.
By the way, was it the Dems that failed to provide body armor for the troops? Who didn’t realize that military vehicle needed armor? Who failed to realize that there just might be an insurgency and we better plan for it? Who were outsmarted by French intelligence (they sure whipped the B-Team about WMD!).
Thanks for the good laugh about “conventional wisdom.”

Bored now - You’ve seen Bin Laden ? I think Granata’s point was Maj Duckworth was actively fighting the war on terror as opposed to just paying lip service. It’s easy to “support the military” another thing to actually serve. Ask 5 deferrment Cheney. Remember, before you can “cut and run” you have to show up. Spread the pain and sacrifice, bring back the draft.

“Nobody drafted her”, and so we don’t have to thank her for her service.
“Nobody drafted her” and so we don’t have to provide housing for her so that she can get around without her legs.
Our troops volunteered, so we don’t have to provide them with body armor, or armor for their vehicles, or a real mission.
Is that your point?

I was just reading about a Maj. Tammy Duckworth who lost her legs during the Iraq War. Can somebody please tell me if this is the same Tammy Duckworth who attended United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA) in Singapore in the early 80’s?

If Tammy Duckworth takes on the Pete Granata soundbite and says that she was chasing bin Laden while Roskam was chasing ambulances, I guess that would be somewhat of an admission that Al Qaeda had ties to Saddam Hussein’s Iraq.

No one has mentioned that out of Duckworth’s $1 million plus from individuals, only 2.6% came from the 6th district. In contrast to Roskam’s 55% from individuals. Where is Duckworth’s Support-not in the 6th!
