* Ron Gidwitz finally comes clean to the Tribune about how he tried to convince state Sen. Jim Oberweis to run for US Senate…
Chicago businessman Ron Gidwitz, a social moderate who also unsuccessfully sought the 2006 GOP nomination for governor, acknowledged he “sort of did suggest very strongly on a number of occasions” that Oberweis consider a U.S. Senate bid in 2014.
Sheesh. Was that so difficult?
* Meanwhile, the two GOP legislative leaders ain’t all that enthusiastic about an Oberweis bid…
“Jim, while he may no longer believe some of the things he said in the past, it will come back,” said Illinois Senate Republican leader Christine Radogno of Lemont, who has discouraged an Oberweis bid. “I don’t think that will help the ticket. I encouraged him to think long and hard.” […]
Rep. Jim Durkin of Western Springs, the new Illinois House Republican leader, said Oberweis should do some “soul searching.” Durkin, who defeated Oberweis for the 2002 GOP U.S. Senate nomination, said Oberweis needs to be aware that a litany of controversial statements “don’t wash away after the election” but “will continue on as long as you’re in the public eye.”
Good advice.

To the Post,
Very sage advice indeed by Leader Durkin.
Leader Durkin knows it will turn out real bad for his Caucus with Jim Oberweis on top of the ticket.
That being said, others seem to understand that Jim Oberweis is not a candidate, Jim Oberweis is a Stain on the party; a Stain of inolerance, as late as the SSM debacle, failing miseably at understanding the political, all the while failing My Party for “Purity”.
Let us all be very clear.
Jim Oberweis requires … requires purity from the Party Leaders. “Must”. No wavering.
Add in that “social” issues of SSM, or Immigration, making it about people …people … Jim Oberweis has Stained the party, making it quite clear that if you are not what Jim Oberweis thinks a Republican could/should be, you better get the “Jim Oberweis Seal of Approval” … the “he/she is a good Republican”, becuase, according to Jim Oberweis, if there are “good Republicans”, there has to be …”Bad” Republicans?

Just write the checks. Period. You fail at understanding politics, and especially fail at handling your politics through the media, and you utterly fail at understanding how email/emails always come back to haunt.
Ron Gidwitz, in his distain for Kirk Dillard’s failure to pay him back (in that, I totally get Gidwitz’s point), but then going with one of Rich Daley’s and Rahm Emanuel’s l;argest donors becuase they share Yacht Slips or Montana homes, and in the same cycle, encourages the GOP Stain of intolerance to top the ticket …
Please, Ron …just write the checks, leave the strategy to those who understand how to win, not how to waste cash in a run for governor, or give monies, then retaliate by supporting Rahm Emanuel’s vacation buddy, and not encourage “intolerance” at the top of a ticket … needing diversity.
Pathetic.

Oswego willy calls it straight. Gidwitz needs to stick to check endorsement and stay out of strategy. he’s a bit tone deaf to candidate selection and given his track record at picking winners- not much of an oddsmaker either.

Let’s see how the Helicopter over Soldier Field Oberweis is different today.
Jim Oberweis forced on numerous occasions a vote to “fire Pat Brady” very specifically about Same Sex marriage.
After Oberweis’ Tin Ear got tremendous blowback, how did this “New” Oberweis handle this? Jim Oberweis requires 100% Purity to the GOP Paltform for leaders, no wavering, but gives “passes” to “good Republicans” that this “New” Oberweis … Must … aprrove before giveing the Seal of Approval.

While in Springfield for 10 minutes, Oberweis either called his Springfield Secretary “Lazy” or “bored” saying secretaries should handle 2 senators because, being there 10 minutes, Jim Oberweis knows all about what the secretaries do.
Oberweis passed ONE Bill, which is so confusing to the Collar Counties, it might need correction. Normally, that ism’t a big deal, but saying how accomplished you are, based on ONE Bill, that needs correcting, is a bit pathetic.
Do us all a favor, serve Political and governmental ice cream in Springfield, and give up this dopey Race, for all our sakes.

You mean Leader Durkin, the candidatge that defeated Jim Oberweis, and Leader Durkin, who was supported unanmously by a Caucus to lead a chamber, while Freshman Jim Oberweis lead a “Purity” Coup attempt, that failed like most of Jim Obewrweis’ politcal attempts, and you mean Jim Durkin, who is respected by both sides of the aisle, as a prosecutor of Rod Blagojevich, while Jim Oberweis in the first 10 minutes in Springfield, commits a Cardinal Sin, saying either his Secretary is lazy, or his secretary doesn’t do enough and needs more work, like another Senator to work for to keep busy.
THAT Jim Durkin, versus THAT Jim Oberweis?
I will take Jim durking over Jim Oberweis any day, and in 2002, the voters… did too.
