* Don’t expect to see much of Paul Vallas on the campaign trail any time soon…
Departing Schools Superintendent Paul Vallas told the Board of Education on Tuesday night that his focus would be on the district, and not on running for lieutenant governor of Illinois, during the remainder of his tenure here.
Try as they might, however, board members could not pin him down to an exit date. […]
Vallas said he gets vacation and personal days just like every other superintendent.
“There is no primary. There is no race to run,” he said. “Obviously, I will work with the board to transition. I took one personal day.” […]
“I anticipate I will spend 99 percent in the district, maybe more,” Vallas said. “I intend on being a full-time superintendent until the transition period is over.”
He has a 60-day notice clause in his contract, but the local school board has to vote to start the countdown. So far, that hasn’t happened.
* Vallas also got some good news today. Hey, a TKO is still a win…
The Connecticut Supreme Court has overturned the ruling of a judge who ordered Bridgeport Superintendent of Schools Paul Vallas removed from his job because he was not qualified. […]
A state judge ruled in July that Vallas improperly received a waiver to state certification requirements.
However, the Supreme Court overturned the ruling, saying the plaintiffs did not bring their challenge of Vallas’ credentials to state education officials first.

This is an unusual candidacy, to say the least.
He’s pulled a GOP ballot in 2010 but is running as a Dem. He’s a Connecticut school sup., but he has an education consulting business on the side.
Does he still have any State of Illinois consulting contracts? Because it looks like he handed a big one last year.

Might be a favor to the campaign if he has less time to step on toes…
But I can’t campaign because I have to deal with my out of state job is a new one…

Can Vallas give a temporary position to the other Light Gov candidates. I like the idea of not having to listen to these lightweights.

The other 1% better be spent making fundraising calls.
Also, Vallas’ contract with the state ended last summer.

Snucka, news reports had the Vallas Group getting a three-year, $1 million state contract in May 2012.
If the contract ended last summer, do you know why it was cut short?

How about all parties go into an “exectuive session” and get Paul out of Connecticut as soon as humanly possible, with a “no-fault” seperation?
Yikes, this school board is like a pro sports franchise dealing with the “Cap Hit”.

word, I saw one account that said the contract was ended early due to “budget cuts,” fwiw.
It’s always kinda generally bugged me that school supers in general have been able to hold down these second “consulting” gigs where similarly situated officials in other public sector jobs were practically or legally barred from doing anything but the job they were hired to do. You don’t see many fire chiefs or the like bringing in this kinda coin on top of a hefty salary. I guess it’s different when it’s all for the children.

AA, I had no idea those kind of deals went on. You’d think a school district would want their superintendent’s undivided attention.

With all the good experience Vallas has as an executive - he also seems to have a lot of baggage to carry it in. Table for Neely? Oops - too late.

99% of his time AWAY from our Beloved Home State which he cares SO deeply about now (after ALREADY over 11 years of playin’ “Hide ‘n Go Seek” away from Illinois, and then just poppin’ into little, ‘ol cozy Palos for a break here or there)…and he wants/is SO deserving to be 2nd “Top Gun” for OUR Beloved Home State…? PFFF!!!

Yes, what AA said. The contract was ended after they worked on a couple of projects due to budget concerns.
