It continues…

From an Indianapolis Star article about Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh’s presidential aspirations:

Democratic governors named as possible 2008 prospects include Bill Richardson of New Mexico, a former Cabinet secretary who is Hispanic; Tom Vilsack of Iowa, who was also on Kerry’s short list of running mates; and Mark Warner of Virginia, who also appeals as a centrist. Govs. Rod Blagojevich of Illinois and Janet Napolitano of Arizona also have been mentioned.

I wonder how much longer Governor Blagojevich can continue floating his name for president when there have been so many articles written about how he is perceived in Springfield as an untrustworthy negotiating partner and notorious media hound. (I’ve got to get on the road, but I’ll round up some supporting links later this week.)

  1. In no way Rod is currently prepared to nationally project a rising-star image or even to hint some possible true leadership qualifications for that post. He needs lots of work ahead of him if he really wants to achieve that goal. Even though I must say that his chest war is getting fatter and fatter which could very easily enable him to pay for some high profile consultants.

  2. he is perceived in Springfield as an untrustworthy negotiating partner and notorious media hound.I am not sure that this is the type of statement that requires supporting links. It think it is common knowledge, e.g. the grass is green, the sky is blue, and Blagorgeous is perceived in Springfield as an untrustworthy negotiating partner and notorious media hound.

  3. some might suggest the perception has spread beyond Springfield.

  4. I am praying it happens. I get a trademark on Blagozo and make a mint selling shirts.

Would Blagozo’s Circus be fair use parody or trademark infringment (then again that might be true for Blagozo).

  5. You will see. Blago announces presidential run after election in 2006. not a rumor but a reality. he will definitely run, but not sure if he will be successful. I cannot imagine that he wouldn’t. never lost an election. is it his destiny or luck? God blessed him with political luck - I guess.

  6. I am looking forward to someone asking him about it during campaign 2006, him saying ‘No I will serve out my term’ and then finding a way to weasle out of it.

  7. Maybe the way to the presidency will come to Blagojevich in a strange dream - as if a prophecy of old (Alan Keyes eat your heart out).

  8. Don’t underestimate Blagojevich’s chances at a serious run for the whole enchilada in 2008.

About a year before winning the Dem primary for Governor, I believe he polled under 3% at one point. He’s been underestimated before.

His big picture record as Governor? Steering the state through tough fiscal waters with a record of serious budget cutting — with no general tax increases.

Leading the charge for prescription drugs from Canada to save seniors $$$.

Lets face it, the man can raise serious money, and he excels at retail, face to face politics.

Lets see…a midwestern, moderate, Democrat, with a record of smaller government, no tax increases. Excels at retail campaign and can raise money by the bucketload.

You’re right, he would have no chance in Iowa or New Hampshire…(roll eyes)

  9. That’s the first defense of the governor I’ve seen that hasn’t come from a member of his staff or from someone in his patronage network. Then again, maybe I’m jumping to conclusions. You don’t identify yourself on your blog.

    Still, the comments were appreciated.

  10. Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not advocating. Just trying to keep my biases out of the arguement.

From a dispassionate point of view, I see a lot of similarities between Blago and Bush before he ran. General likeability, lots of money, and a strange abiltiy to successfully take advantage of the media’s laziness to deflect blame personal/professional failings on others.

BTW — I don’t identify myself personally on my blog on purpose.
