· “Neither Gov. Rod Blagojevich nor his challenger, Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka, responded directly to a candidate survey from an anti-gambling group. Did a little survey on Gasbuddy the other day. First in high prices was NYC, second LA, third SPRINGFIELD, IL!!!!! Did 12 samples covering various parts of the county, using largest and medium sized cities. But then we Springfieldites knew it all the time. Time for hybrids.

Happy to see the link about ICC joining the fight against Lisa Madigan. I know its not a big issue for 99% of the state, but as a community college employee, it has really ruffled a lot of feathers of people I know.

One would think as a former employee of the City Colleges of Chicago and a highly qualified dean of a community college (Madigan was chosen as an assistant dean at Wilbur Wright College despite having only a baccalaureate degree to her credit) while attending the Loyola University Law School (how did she find time to work full-time and attend law school as a full-time student almost simultaneously? when did she sleep?) that Lisa Murray Madigan should be the authority on all subjects related to Illinois community colleges.

I was just wondering if CFL President Gannon will be willing to pay the city’s hefty legal bill for a losing defense of the “Big Box” ordinance in court, should Mayor Daley decide not to veto the measure. The millions the city may end up spending on attorneys in what may be a fruitless effort to keep the ordinance from being tossed out in court could be better used on pay increases for the city’s unionized workers.

Does anyone else think that Meeks should be careful about bashing the teachers too much? I for one have a lot of respect for teachers who are willing to work in underfunded districts where the conditions are, well, let’s just say less than ideal. Meeks blames these teachers for the problems? Wow…way to blame those who are trying to change things.

Who pays the community college staff and teachers? Is it the state or local governments?
I’d think that would determine whose employees they were. Don’t want to forget the federal funding - does that come from Uncle Sam direct or does it come through an agency/local government?
Maybe the teachers are concerned that their tenured status won’t cover those who really have no business trying to be an educator. There are those out there that can not communicate sufficiently enough to instruct others. Those people should not be in the “teaching” profession, nor should they be protected by “tenure” - something that the tax-payers should have never allowed to happen in the first place.

Well, who is it that signs off on removing the signs, then?
And since the majority of the open toll gates have not been put up yet, this is a great opportunity for the Governor to show some verility and have the remaining signs put up without his name on them.

If not elected, does this mean trustees would be appointed? By whom?
Let’s see…39 community colleges with 7 trustess each equals 273 appointed positions

On this hot day, voters need to read this article and ask themselves “Who is making Illinois such a ‘difficult political and regulatory environment’?”
Near junk bond status…what is next? Bankruptcy? Rolling blackouts? Can anyone say “California”?
