Road crews install signs indicating the average Illinois driver will now be going only 10 mph over the limit (until next week, when they’ll just start going even faster).

I’m old enough to remember years ago (Carter admin) that speed limits were reduced at the behest of the feds to reduce the consumption of gas during the energy crisis. Lo and behold subsequent studies proved that lower speed limits also saved lives. Guess those things aren’t as important any more.

Plugging along at 65 mph in his campaign director’s Tahoe was fine. But the siren song of driving a fine automobile at the heady speed of 70 mph was too much for Baron von Carhartt.
