Rauner says he made money off the Illinois Teachers Retirement System for 30 years. He had Stu Levine on the payroll for $25K a month when Levine was a decider on who got the business.
But he’s down on “insiders” and “union bosses” and thinks the recent pension deal doesn’t go far enough.
So he’s a billionaire off of public employee money. But he wants to cut their pensions.
It’s breathtaking.

Anyone else notice that neither Charles or Slusher failed to ask what part of govt will you cut when $2 billion tax hike cash is gone.
Instead they have this very painful Q&A on work comp. OMG no one really cares about work comp
This was painful. FarmerBrucey must be happy that he got out the door before CaptFax released the facts on his fines.

word, the funniest part of that statement, irony aside, is that it’s incorrect. According to Crain’s, the number is more like 15 years.

“Run it like a business”
Really wish Rutherford or Brady would challenge him on that. Rauner has never run any businesses. He buys and sells businesses. He made his money off of government contracts. Running government like a business is the ultimate meaningless GOP primary throwaway line.
It’s worse than Democrats saying “protect social security,” such BS.

That reads like feelings were hurt and someone either wanted to get all tough-guy-at-the-playground or take the ball and go home.
If it looks the way it reads, whomever said it (Dan?) best hope few GOP voters watch it.
Or maybe that works well with GOP voters.

Others would say it comes across very well, especially since it appears to be someone standing up to the “elitist bully trying to buy our party”.
Or, in context, just a person standing up for himself when another person spreads falsehoods about him.
That works well with everyone.

I would have expected the candidate to stay on topic and directly address the comment or slander.
Maybe he did.
It’s probably better to wait for a video or transcript and ignore “tweet” coverage.

Meanwhile, the AP makes it sound like a relatively cordial exchange.
They also omit the questions about Stuart Levine, which other media outlets mention multiple times in tweets and print.

Glad to see Rutherford give back a little and call Rauner out with that exchange. Most people see Dan as a this nice guy who can relate to people (and he does way better than almost anyone), but there’s a side to him that will also stand up to bullies. Glad to see him stand up and fight today. It’s not a weakness nor thin skin. His skin got thickened four years ago. He’s as much the “statesman” in this campaign as anyone. Also glad to see Brady stay on attack message. A few months ago, I questioned how long it would take for Rauner to start running negative ads. I suspect those will start after today’s event –and after he loans himself another million to pay off campaign debt. He’s spending money faster than he’s earning it –not exactly what Illinois needs in it’s next Governor.

Assuming Dan Rutherford can show Rauner’s assertions about Dan’s campaign funding were false, his response during the Rauner’s closing statements was appropriate.
Dillard, Rutherford, and Brady ought to unite in refusing to run TV ads and calling on Illinoisans to MUTE all Rauner ads.
