Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard and Dan Rutherford today refused to condemn planned attempts by Pat Quinn’s Democrat and labor union allies to hijack the Republican Party.
“GOP candidates for governor are refusing to stand up to Pat Quinn and his allies, and Republican primary voters deserve to know the reason. They are part of the broken system in Springfield that has been failing Illinoisans for years,” said Chip Englander, campaign manager for Bruce Rauner’s campaign. “The truth is all of them sat in Springfield for decades and voted with the Democrats to raise taxes, to create the pension crisis, for big spending budgets and for sweetheart deals with the government union bosses.”

Rutherford never should have kept the powder dry, or threw it back with “Paranoia”, then how more juicy and more Dopey could Rauner’s Crew look with this statement.
Wednesday after 3, try to get 4 pm news to get the “paranoia” narrative out there, liberally borrow if you like, but Wednesday, the story needs to unwind that the Tim Foil Hat wearing Rauner Crew is either paranoid for no reason, it has a real good reason to fear education.
“We will all wait and see how Mr. Rauner responded to these ’so-called’ ads and see where the truth lay, the we can judge what is real, and what is fiction, and if the Billionaire Mr. Rauner needs rescuing from 3 career politicians at that point.”
Run with this, you “3″, feed the paranoia, go silent till at least Wesldnesday, then go Commander Queeg / Bruce Rauner and where is his truth.

I actually agree with you here Empty Chair. But my biggest beef with the Rauner campaign is he offers no solutions. Just trust me to be different. And since they started throwing stones, instead of being different and offering up solutions, he just throws some stones back.

I thought Shearer was spearheading the negative spots. He worked for Schock.
Apparently, Rauner is more of a Republican than Schock, Dillard, Rutherford and Brady, combined.
He just hid it for a long time by playing sugar daddy for Daley, Emanuel and Claypool.

I think this is actually a smart move by the Rauner campaign. If they don’t come out and condemn the unions getting involved to influence the GOP primary, they look guilty. And the Rauner campaign has the resources to make these attacks effective and stick.

Rauner just escalated things and dared all three of them to come after him at once.
He’s daring them to come after him on Rahm, his ties to Democrats, his sudden conversion to the Republican party, and everything else imaginable.
He is telling his opponents, very clearly, that he is going to destroy them unless they destroy him first.
He also sends a clear message to the party itself. He does not care about lessons learned from the presidential primary, where the candidates battered each other to pieces. He does not care whether the Republican party wins in November, only that he wins in November. The new guy will buy this Republican nomination or destroy their chances in November while doing so.
Maybe he really is scared.

Integrity and honesty… about ones self, and about fooling yourself to think you have those…
But like Icarus, and hubris, and wax wings, and pride…and thinking fooling others on s big stage will be as easy as fooling yourself, and seeing those wings melt, as failed ambition falls, based on a false belief of who you want others to see you as…
Scorched Earth is better than melted wings, and a bruised ego, and possibly a tattered reputation.

All are at play here, and Rauner better stop blinking at the hot sun he is flying past.

It will play well in the Republican primary if one out of Brady, Rutherford or Dillard does not break out from the others. If Rauner can cast himself as the only true “conservative” he only needs 35 to 40 percent of the vote. Then comes the tricky bit — he has to hope his resources are enough to look respectable for the general.

Anonymous 5:24 must be either a Rauner “insider” or a good fiction writer.
Mr. Rauner, I can tell you that while you often hear these “they’re all rotten; let’s get rid of all them,” from a certain faction, it generally does not appeal to the other who believe they can’t all be gotten rid of asap because somewhat of a strategy and therefore transition plan needs to be implemented for everything not to go into that proverbial hand basket.

I wonder how much this obsession with blaming unions and Republicans colluding with them for everything will backfire on Rauner. My die hard always votes in the GOP primary teacher has the attitude of why would any teacher vote for Rauner and she’s far from alone. If I remember correctly from an article I saw the union that gave the money to Shearer has approx. 16,000 members and around 49% voted Republican in the 2010 primary. That’s a lot of voters and press releases like this only add fuel to the fire.

Among a dozen other risks, Rauner’s argument that the other three have all been in Springfield too long is really a slap in the face to the voters who sent them there. In other words, those voters are the ones that are really to blame for repeatedly sending them back (ostensibly because the voters believed they were representing their interests). The argument that they’re bad, the whole system is broken is ridiculous. With that level of logic, the House Clerks should be let go too, right? What about JCAR staff or the Auditor General? They’ve been around a long time, right? Rauner’s been around a long time too. The dirt on the nursing homes is just the ice tip. There will be a February surprise and the nursing home story was, just in my opinion, a teaser. I’m anxious to see some of the yet non-existent ads that’s causing his fasiculations.

Only if you’re extremely “sensitive” and looking to find and interpret something as a vicious attack on the general public and oneself personally from people who say stupid things in the press all the time. I’d like to believe that few voters would care and would rather focus on substance.
And there will probably be a lot February surprises–and even some that pop up in March. It wouldn’t be an Illinois election if there weren’t.

@anonymous - not disagreeing that most are not that sensitive, but it just strikes me as illogical to potentially insult voters that he’s trying to win over. Then again, if he’s not really a republican, it doesn’t really matter. I think this guy is a bigger sham than Blagojevich. Just have that pit in my gut on this one. Same feeling I had when Blagojevich won the democratic primary in 2002.

Dillard tying all of the shortcomings under the guise they are trying to do with their response is important, but the focus needs to be more on the hypocrisy and less “D” word only.
The irony and hypocrisy probably is most toxic, besides the name Rahm, or pictures of Rahm and Bruce hugging on TV. That will be radioactive and difficult to wish away.

It’s been interesting to see the GOP money boys across the state abandon Dillard, Rutherford and Brady for Rauner.
I think they’ve lost their minds. What minds they had to lose, anyway. Apparently, they have a lot of money to waster. Look at Dan Proft.
From Gidwitz to Roeser and all points in-between, they’re all-in for this goof.
Really? What are the money boys buying? What do they get with a laughable phony like Farmer Bruce?
Quinn’s going to have money to go negative. He will have a ground game. The Op Engineers are going negative on Rauner, already. No GOP ground game, at all.
Rauner will get smoked, no matter how much he spends. He can’t handle eight months of scrutiny.
The dizziness of the GOP money boys explains a lot as to why they’re are a joke.
Too late, I guess, for Big Jim, Edgar, and JBT to knock their heads together.
In my opinion, there’s no way such a contemptuous hater of the people like Rauner can get to 50& plus one in a general election. None.
Oberweis and Farmer Bruce at the top of the ballot, taking arrows for eight months after March? it looks like a Madigan plot.

Rauner has all the major GOP donors locked-up and he gave Mayor Richard M. Daley $150K in one check and he’s going to attack the other three as being insiders connected with the Democrats?

I am a IL resident and taxpayer, like most if not all of you. All I am looking for is some accountability along with some relief, our current system has shown that this is not the case. Really not interested in continuing our 67% tax increase. Do you really think this will be better under our current governor?

I am with you, well said.
I am, and have continued to be, amazed at the Pied Piper farse that has been the Rauner Campaign.
The complete lack of logic and understanding of who these followers use to be, and where Baron Von Carhartt wants to go is mind boggling.
You have been a touchstone, for me at least, when I find myself looking around and seeing people I have respect for line themselves up and be counted with a campaign, that not too long ago, would have made them disappointed in the choice even being offered.
To reconcile “Bruce Rauner” to Bruce Rauner, and now with this paranoia dictating its new tact, I find myself pleased I couldn’t compromise the Reagan Rules for someone who agrees 80% of the time with the likes of Rahm Enanuel, when those tens of thousands of dollars say to that question of the Reagan Rule, “this isn’t right”.
It’s quite funny, even Reagan Democrats will know better about Rauner, and that will confuse those lemmings the most.
Just. Amazing. Period.
Keep it up, - wordslinger -, it makes a big difference in keeping me believing that My Party can get out of this funk, if it can just wake up and see its hand in front of its face.

One of the first things I would urge you to do is to have caricatures with big heads made of each member of the Governor’s staff. You could then tell them that the only time you want to see them with big heads is when you look at these caricatures.
One of the frustrating things I saw in my 30+ years was the decent folks who turned into big egomaniacs once they joined the Governor’s staff.

I argued with OW that when they start the union ads against Rauner-it will backfire and cement his primary nod, but at this point, what have they got to lose. I mean they barely attack him during debates. This ones over before its started.

Why do they reject the Illinois GOP? And Illinois Dems, for that matter. They’ve made a boatload off of all them.
I thought Alan Keyes was the low-point for the Illinois GOP. I was wrong.

I am disappointed, but not surprised. It seems like both parties worship at the alter of the self-funded candidate and Bruce is the ultimate example. Once Bruce showed he was willing to dump millions into his campaign and spread the cash to those willing to endorse him, it was all over.

I think the Rauner campaign has given us just a taste of what will be unleashed if any one of the three show any signs of traction, particularly Rutherford. Remember that the top members of the Rauner crew are almost all out of state (Englander is from California, Mike Schrimpf is from Ohio and D.C., etc. ). They can move on after this election is over, and Rauner will just retire with his money. “Restraint” is a word not heard much in the last weeks of a campaign, but I don’t expect even a shred of it from these guys.

Liberty Valance trivia. Jimmy Stewart was allowed to wear a hat in this movie out of retribution by Ford for Stewart’s refusal to wear a new hat in the previous western they worked on. Stewart had insisted on wearing the same hat he’s used in several westerns.

The Wisconsin GOP Senate primary has gotten a bit rougher recently, with some anxiety among some Republicans about former Rep. Mark Neumann — viewed by Democrats as their weakest possible opponent — cleaning up and the state Republican convention.

While most campaigns have made the claims Neumann was “Astro-turfing” instead of building real grassroots support, the Neumann camp simply says others didn’t have the ground game they did, calling gripes over Neumann’s first-round victory mere spin. The first-round balloting had Neumann with 42 percent of the vote, which was double the number of closest competitor Fitzgerald.
“Is that in comparison to the ‘no turf’ campaign or ‘no roots’ campaign they waged?” asked Neumann campaign manager Chip Englander. “Haters gonna hate.”
