  1. I’m going tomorrow night. Hopefully the White Sox score about 8 runs off that stiff Edwin Jackson, a quality Theo move if there ever was one (rolleyes). I look forward to watching Abreu in person., should be fun.

Comment by Ravenswood Right Winger Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:12 pm

  2. Tonight the Chicago White Sox take on an average high school team. Highlights at 10!

Comment by Commonsense in Illinois Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:15 pm

  3. At least the Sox needle is pointing upwards. The Cubs perpetually suck. Looking forward to winning 3 of these next 4.

Comment by Stones Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:20 pm

  4. It should be a fun time!
It will be the first time that many in Wrigleyville has ever seen professional Chicago baseball. I hope they stay sober enough to take notes.

Comment by VanillaMan Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:20 pm

  5. The Cubs are 11-18- that is all.

Comment by Goonhammer Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:22 pm

  6. The loyal fans at the Cell are annoyed to hop on the train. Nevertheless, all seven of them will be there.

Comment by Dirty Red Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:22 pm

  7. The Cubs just took 2 out of 3 from STL over the weekend. Should be a decent game.

Comment by RNUG Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:24 pm

  8. My team is better than your team! na

Comment by not applicable Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:24 pm

  9. Tickets are incredibly easy to get for this year’s cross-town. Doesn’t say much for either team.

Comment by Responsa Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:25 pm

  10. In 2005, the World Champion White Sox played at Wrigley - VanillaMan -, so this year is the “first time”?

Cubs took 2 of 3 from the Cards, hoping for a 2-2 split on the home/home series.

Might try to get to the Cell, but I’ll wear Blackhawks gear that day. The food at the Cell, “excellent”

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:25 pm

  11. Go Blackhawks! :)

Comment by PoolGuy Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:26 pm

  12. We filled Wrigley, so a lot of those Cub fans weren’t able to be there. The Astros got more than a few lessons too, didn’t they?

Comment by VanillaMan Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:26 pm

  13. The Cubs have won three out of four, taking the series from St. Louis. That would be the Cubs’ first winning series of 2014, so the Sox are headed into Wrigley to face a red hot team. Well, at least this is what passes for red hot these days.

    Go Cubs!

    Comment by 47th Ward Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:27 pm

  14. Illinois ought to annex St. Louis. Then the state would finally have a nice city to visit, and a professional baseball team.

    Comment by John A Logan Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:27 pm

  15. ===Then the state would finally have a nice city to visit…===

Chicago is workd class, STL is 2nd class…

Baseball, well, you may have me there, I guess, if we haveta talk about stats, records, championships, …

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:32 pm

  16. Willy, order some Cannoli. That might be your only chance this year. Go Cards!

Comment by Arthur Andersen Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:43 pm

  17. What Theo promissed to do in five years, Rick Hahn did in one.

Comment by lake county democrat Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:47 pm

  18. I liked the throwback Cub jerseys from last night. Maybe they could wear them again today. Heavens knows nobody got them dirty yesterday. :) Go Sox!

    Comment by A guy... Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:49 pm

  19. Every time the state subsidized Welfare Sox get a win, a state pensioner loses their COLA.

Cause they threw money at professional sports millionaires instead of making pension payments.

Comment by Jeff Trigg Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:50 pm

  20. Cubs sweep.

Comment by Mouthy Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:52 pm

  21. JL - a great baseball team and museum (City Museum, the best kids museum ever) don’t make a tourist destination. Just ask Detroit.

Comment by lake county democrat Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:57 pm

  22. Bud Selig ruined baseball.

    Comment by Cheryl44 Monday, May 5, 14 @ 1:59 pm

  23. ==We filled Wrigley==

The fanbase that draws as many fans as the rent they pay at Taxpayer Park filled Wrigley? When’s your standup special?

Comment by Precinct Captain Monday, May 5, 14 @ 2:01 pm

  24. Rich-you know I’m a lifelong Sox fan…but there is no trash to talk because neither team is anything above garbage this year…its an irrelevant series played by two irrelevant ball clubs…i’m glad its just 2 games at each park and then knowledgeable fans can get back to hoping their team (on either side of town)beats teams that actually matter-their own divisional foes…

Comment by mark Monday, May 5, 14 @ 2:09 pm

  25. Have you guys all seen the recently unearthed newsreel footage from the 1919 Sox- Reds world series? (The black sox scandal year) Cicotte on the mound, the aerial views from a plane, men in the stands all wearing suits and hats, old Comiskey, the antique uniforms and logos–it’s all there.

Comment by Responsa Monday, May 5, 14 @ 2:10 pm

  26. via ESPN, looked like there were fewer tickets available for the Cell games than those at Wrigley.

Comment by Amalia Monday, May 5, 14 @ 2:13 pm

  27. Responsa - I saw that footage last week. Extremely cool! I especially liked the mechanical scoreboard in New York.

Comment by Stones Monday, May 5, 14 @ 2:18 pm

  28. Re: Edwin Jackson

As a Cubs fan, I didn’t like the signing, but it has been far from the wash people make it out to be. He’s always had a poor walk percentage and isn’t great at starting out counts but his fielding independent and batted ball stats were good.

Comment by Precinct Captain Monday, May 5, 14 @ 2:25 pm

  29. I prefer to watch professional baseball.

Comment by Charlatan Heston Monday, May 5, 14 @ 2:26 pm

  30. PC - In his first outing with the White Sox back in 2010, Edwin Jackson struck out 14 batters. It went downhill quickly after that.

Comment by Stones Monday, May 5, 14 @ 2:31 pm

  31. I prefer women’s college softball to just about any professional sport.

Comment by Huh? Monday, May 5, 14 @ 2:34 pm

  32. - AA -, I flew that “L” flag for you!

I went to the 1st Crosstown Classic and a young ball player got some “run” with the Cubs, but left in trade shortly after.

    Joe Carter.

If tickets are getting scarce for the Cell games, I better get on it. I am only asking for a split. Over/Under, 8 total errors by both teams, all 4 games?

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 5, 14 @ 2:39 pm

  33. Trash talk ended October 26,2005…..as Larry Lujack once stated “the Eagle does not speak of the fly”

Comment by Glass half full Monday, May 5, 14 @ 2:53 pm

  34. Don’t care. Jack Bauer returns to save the world.

Comment by Retired Monday, May 5, 14 @ 3:05 pm

  35. Willy, no more wagers for me until my guys get a little stronger lol. Perhaps our host likes Cannoli.

Comment by Arthur Andersen Monday, May 5, 14 @ 3:35 pm

  36. –Illinois ought to annex St. Louis. Then the state would finally have a nice city to visit, and a professional baseball team.–

John L., sorry you can’t find a nice place to visit in Illinois.

    You’re quite the misanthrope.

    Bite yourself.

Love St. Louis. The peeps, LaClede’s Landing, Forest Park, The Hill, the City Museum, always have a great time there.

But they have some issues, like the rest of humanity.

I’ll tell you one thing Chicago doesn’t have: a punk owner who throw his players under the bus and “apologizes” for losing a seven-game playoff series to a better team and a better organization.

What, you “apologize” that your boys didn’t beat the Hawks?

    Who thought that you could?

I can’t imagine, Wrigley, the Tribbies, Zell or the Ricketts “apologizing” that they weren’t better than the Cards.

Because the Cards have been a way better organization for a long, long time.

Nobody paid or tuned in to watch you, Stillman.

No one knows who you are or cares what you think.

Blues are a good team. Hawks are a great team.

Did you see Hossa yesterday? It was sick. The big old man can play both ends of the ice.

Comment by wordslinger Monday, May 5, 14 @ 3:43 pm

  37. I had a roommate back forever ago from Metro East area, huge STL fan; Blues and Cards.

Took me a long time to admit STL has positives, but the roommate would double-team baseball by rooting for the Sox too. Yet, I miss the guy.

I like Smardjiza throwing tonight. If the boys in Blue hive him a run or 4, I like the chances of a win, tonight.

Paulie get a “start” tonight? Gotta give him one game at Wrigley…

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 5, 14 @ 3:53 pm

  38. As a Cubs fan, I am waiting for Prior and Wood to get healthy and things will be ok.

Comment by Mail Guy Monday, May 5, 14 @ 3:55 pm

  39. It will be interesting to see how Cubbie-blue types react to Jose Abreu - a real ballplayer with potential, as opposed to some of the Cubs prospects types who supposedly will amount to something someday (although we haven’t seen it yet. Then again, even if the White Sox win a majority of the games to take the now-BP-less cup, it’s still just against the Cubs. Does it really matter?

Comment by Gregory Tejeda Monday, May 5, 14 @ 4:03 pm

  40. –It will be interesting to see how Cubbie-blue types react to Jose Abreu - a real ballplayer with potential–

It’s been a month, dude. He hasn’t been around the league yet. No one has a book on him.

Baseball is lousy with guys who tore it up before anyone got a book on them.

Comment by wordslinger Monday, May 5, 14 @ 4:58 pm

  41. “Having the book” on a ball player..,

“Look, Nuke…these big-league hitters are going to light you up like a pinball machine…for a while, all right? Don’t worry about it.” - Crash Davis

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 5, 14 @ 5:08 pm

  42. - AA -, I would go favorite dog treats for Oscar vs. Cannoli.

Oscar needs a rooting interest, plus, I am hoping, for the State Fair, they have “Deep Fried Cannoli”. That would go well at the beer tent, so I hear…

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 5, 14 @ 6:19 pm

  43. I’m hearin’ the Song,”WHITE Sox, WHITE Sox–go go WHITE Sox…!” And, yet, there’s also playin’ in my Head, “Go Cubs go, go Cubs GO, hey Chicago, whatdya say, the Cubs are gonna win today…!

In summary, “Na na na na, na na na na, HEY HEY, Gooooood Bye!”

Enjoy the 4 Games Series, Everybody!! As an EQUAL, Smack Dab Right Down the Middle, 50-50 Sox and Cubs fan, or Cubs and Sox fan, I know I SURE WILL…!

Comment by Just The Way It Is One Monday, May 5, 14 @ 6:45 pm

  44. Two hitters, 1st error “E-5″…

    Yikes.

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 5, 14 @ 7:11 pm

  45. OW–ah, for the days of that Ronnie SANTO-type defense, ey?!

Comment by Just The Way It Is One Monday, May 5, 14 @ 7:32 pm

  46. The play was to 1st, too slow to get the lead runner. Santo would have made the sure play.

I came to this conclusion; I will see bad baseball, just don’t show me baseball that is not played smartly. That error led to an unearned run, no reason…not smart.

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 5, 14 @ 7:36 pm

  47. Smardjiza makes a sweet play, “E-3″, error #2, runners on the corners…

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 5, 14 @ 7:55 pm

  48. Gotta head home now. Gee, that one, measly, unearned run holdin’ up for the Sox–and did anyone say “No Hitter” yet by JQ.? Ah, way too early yet. Still, pretty nippy out there tonight–a Pitcher’s kind of Game as a Rule…enjoy!

Comment by Just The Way It Is One Monday, May 5, 14 @ 8:20 pm

  49. Smardjiza goes 9, has 1 unearned run, gets Cubs first hit and only run. Earned every dollar tonight Jeff. Extra innings? Win it in the 9th!

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, May 5, 14 @ 9:40 pm

  50. –We filled Wrigley, so a lot of those Cub fans weren’t able to be there.–

Sox fans filled a stadium? That is bad standup material.

Sox are 29 out of 30 in home attendance, at 42% capacity.

That ain’t people talking about not going, that’s just people not going.

Ugh, no need for lousy Chicago baseball when it’s 45 degrees in May and the Hawks are on a six-game rip in the playoffs.

Seriously, did you see Hossa on both ends of the ice yesterday? Dude’s been in the league 16 years. Who does he think he is, Gordie Howe?

Comment by wordslinger Monday, May 5, 14 @ 9:55 pm

  51. Two 90 loss teams in 40 degree weather tied 1-1 in the 12th. You gotta be a real baseball fan to pay attention to that. I see wordslinger is already distracted like a child.

Legalize cannabis, make Wrigley even more fun! Darwin Barney Bong Night. (And benefit the state budget by $300 million/yr at least.)

Comment by Jeff Trigg Monday, May 5, 14 @ 10:32 pm

  52. –I see wordslinger is already distracted like a child.–

The NHL playoffs are hardly a distraction, and certainly not childish like, say, libertarianism.

Comment by wordslinger Tuesday, May 6, 14 @ 7:09 am

  53. If your brain can’t comprehend the definition of the word distraction, its hard to believe you can even grasp the concept of libertarianism no matter how superior you think you are.
