  1. To have these three versions of the spending budget come up so quickly in succession, means the appropriations committees and staff have been constructing rough-cut alternative “what-ifs” all along. And that members from both sides of the aisle should already be aware of many of the options.

    Just waiting for some folks to claim “We had no part in this. Complete surprise to us.”

  2. The cupcake and lemonade stand bill goes down in flames. How was this not addressed and worked out in advance by the lead sponsor? It never should have gotten to this point.

    Between the “tire fee” technical change last week and the refusal to carve out some sort of language exempting bake sales and kids this week, we must wonder just how much wisdom and effort our legislators put into some of these bills.

    Wise legislation is not a state priority.
