When Sox catcher Tyler Flowers lost his grip on his bat on a second-inning swing, it sailed into the seats at U.S. Cellular Field. A fan seated in the first row, identified by MLB’s Cut 4 website as Eileen Depesa, speared the flying bat one-handed after it bounced off the top of the dugout and prevented it from injuring anyone.
Depesa had to return the bat, but as she told Cut 4, “I was more concerned with protecting the baby seated behind me.”

It was a heck of a save by that lady. Her husband / boyfriend sitting next to her obviously wanted no part of the flying bat. Any chance we can sign her to the Blackhawks to replace Crawford?

As a Blues fan I will gladly trade you straight up Crawford for Miller! Actually there’s another Chicago team across town that might be able to use good hands like this lady.

They should give her a free season pass. She most likely saved someone from serious injury.

Injuries are a known risk incidental to attending a baseball game. It worries me that some fans are oblivious (cell phone users) and others put young children at risk. Back in the day, I could never recall infants at sporting events.
Be careful and stay safe.

Bats are confiscated for obvious reasons — big club, beer, hot days.
I’ve heard cases where those who caught a bat in the stands were given some other gear, but not a bat.
MLB bats are generally custom-made for individual players and cost about $400 each.

I had forgotten, Rich Miller, what a diehard Chicago White Sox fan you are! I am too…I mean I REALLY love my team. Since the Chicago Blackhawks are slowly breaking my heart, I will be giving my Chicago White Sox my full attention soon! They won the series against the NY Yankees…Abreu rocks…2nd in the AL Central. Lookin’ like a promising season!!!

Considering Miller is going to be a free agent there is no need to trade for him if we want him.

Remember, Hawks were down 3-1 to the Wings last year.
But last night was the worst I’ve seen the Hawks play all year. Kings have been one of the best teams in hockey for years. You’ve got to bring your A game.

Sox fans like baseball, so getting drunk in the bleachers at Wrigley isn’t an option for them. They like to know what is happening at a game.
Cub fans wear make up at their games.
Sox fans put brush their teeth. Sometimes.

Wow nice catch. They should have had the bat delivered to her house post game. No security problems with the bat in the stands. For that matter i don’t care what it costs she earned.

They should have gotten the bat back, told her to stop at ___ on way out and then given her some signed souvenirs (such as that very bat).

That was a phenomenal, one-handed grab on her part and saved that baby girl’s life! In MY opinion, Mr. REINSdorf should hold a special ceremony at some point before a Game soon, just to commend her and give her a Plaque and Free Seasons Tickets, AND the Mother with the baby girl should ALso at least get free, signed gear from Tyler Flowers (meeting HIM personally, too) to boot…!
