…Adding… Script…

The American dream.

Success.

Security.

That’s what Illinois’s governor should want for all of us.

Does Pat Quinn?

He criticizes job creators and business owners for their hard-earned success

He’s raised taxes, increased spending, and hasn’t solved the pension crisis

And while Illinois loses jobs – and paychecks – Pat Quinn’s taken millions in taxpayer dollars as an Illinois elected official

Call Pat Quinn and tell him to focus on helping people get ahead, instead of demonizing those who do.

  1. Bad.
    It is pure garbage.
    Not worth a plug nickel.

Comment by VanillaMan Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 11:28 am

  2. I despise the “call xxx and tell him/her to stop xxxx-ing” ads and robo calls.

  3. They must be targeting their own members and funders. Almost every statement either simply false, or skewed to those who like to bathe in ideology and victimhood.

    Whatever.

  4. A terrible ad.

Too boring, too much stuff, no details that stick.

They could plug in literally any governor and make the same ad.

    I give it a D.

Comment by Gooner Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 11:36 am

  5. “F” for Fone it In.

Anytime someone feels the need to wave the flag in the opening shot, you know they’ve got nothing.

What was the “demonizing” of “job creators?” Do they mean Rauner? What jobs did he “create?”

News flash — we’re a consumer-driven economy. If they ain’t buying, nobody’s selling. Consumers are the “job creators” not paper-shuffling hustlers like Rauner.

  6. I saw it several times on you tube. Don’t underestimate how many people will see it there

    Comment by Pat C Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 11:40 am

  7. Meh. Not great, not good, just mediocre. But let’s all remember that the goal of these guys is to say one thing: Pat Quinn=BAD. It does that.

The “call Pat Quinn…” bit is to qualify using 501(c)(4) funds - disclosed only to the IRS, not the state board of elections.

Comment by Just Saying Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 11:43 am

  8. ===I despise the “call xxx and tell him/her to stop xxxx-ing” ads and robo calls.==

This line is essential to classifying the ad as “issue advocacy” and not political campaign activity as defined by the SCOTUS. We all know what is going on but if they do not include that line they can loose their 501c(4) status and would have to disclose who their donors are.

Comment by Jimmy CrackCorn Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 11:46 am

  9. Quinn was demonizing job producers? I don’t remember him saying anything bad about consumers…?!

Meh, the ad only works to reinforce opinions.

Comment by Ducky LaMoore Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 11:48 am

  10. “News flash — we’re a consumer-driven economy. If they ain’t buying, nobody’s selling. Consumers are the “job creators” not paper-shuffling hustlers like Rauner.”
Except those consumers buying expensive wine or real estate - they’re bad.

Comment by Bogey Golfer Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 11:52 am

  11. Meh…
Lots of better stuff to go after Quinn for

Comment by OneMan Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 11:57 am

  12. Consumers don’t take the risks personally and financially to open a business. To state that “consumers are the job creators” and imply the business owners are just vanilla middle man with no real say or risk in what they do is flat out insulting.

Comment by Anonymoiis Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 11:58 am

  13. Most of us have figured out that “trickle down” is yellow, not green. Never worked because the wealthy simply hold onto the money and redistribute it amongst themselves. Thoroughly discredited economic theory.

    Comment by PolPal56 Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 11:59 am

  14. “Feel bad for us rich guys.”

Comment by Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 12:00 pm

  15. Anonymoiis:

Yes, and potential new business owners only act when they think consumer are ready to spend. If consumers don’t spend (because they have no money), there is no incentive for anyone to open a business other than to take someone else’s market share. And the net economic effect of that activity is ZERO.

Comment by Concerned Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 12:03 pm

  16. A good ad would be Rauner touting how many jobs he created in Illinois and how. (Just kidding)

Comment by js Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 12:07 pm

  17. First Quinn’s lousy wine web ad and now this. If “job creators” comprised 51% of Illinois voters, this might be a good ad. This line of attack didn’t work for Romney in ‘12, and it won’t for Rauner in ‘14.

Comment by Jay Dee Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 12:08 pm

  18. “The Koch Brothers should be spending their fortune cleaning up the toxic mess they dumped in Chicago.”

Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 12:12 pm

  19. Not great, but apparently part of the formula. Old School 3rd party ad. Easy to say it didn’t come from the Rauner shop. Life goes on.

    Comment by A guy... Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 12:13 pm

  20. Not a very effective ad. Only modest + for pointing out Quinn’s failures as a Governor. Otherwise directed at a very small audience who already ids in their corner.

Comment by downstate hack Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 12:29 pm

  21. “Job creators” is the ultimate phoney-baloney term of our current political situation. It’s all part of the GOP strategy to fetishize employers and downgrade employees as worthless.

Sad to see this floating around. Criticize Quinn for his many mistakes, but are we supposed to believe that he is really against jobs?

    Absolute garbage.

Comment by DuPage Dave Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 12:30 pm

  22. It doesn’t count if you’re a job creator creating jobs overseas. Business owners aren’t useless middlemen by any means, and they’re compensated handsomely for their risk. But they are the tail. The consumer is, well, the big dog in our demand-driven economy. Give a buck to someone making as much as 100K, and they’ll spend it, thus helping the economic recovery. Give an extra buck to Rauner, and he’ll likely put it towards a house in the Caymans, thus NOT helping the economic recovery…here in the states that is.

Comment by PublicServant Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 12:39 pm

  23. Good enough to frame the issue of whether Governor Quinn is good or bad for private sector employment. Obviously directed to majority of voters who know little or nothing about government and may pay attention a little at election time. Truth is irrelevant. They vote based on emotion. Presume more ads featuring this issue coming. This was just an appetizer.

Comment by Cook County Commoner Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 12:55 pm

  24. Unemployment is up?

Also, by their ciphering, AA “took millions from the state” because we spent a career in public service.

    Miserable Fail.

Comment by Arthur Andersen Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 1:08 pm

  25. Nothing like having plutocratic brothers from another state telling us plebes who we should vote for , er, I mean who to call and complain to. Thanks , SCOTUS , for allowing this crap to pass your muster…

Comment by Roadiepig Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 1:14 pm

  26. At least give me some quotes on who he is criticizing.

And that whole paycheck thing is just dopey.

Comment by Demoralized Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 1:17 pm

  27. Also- I think we know how the Koch’s would “fix the pension crisis”, and constitutions be damned.

Comment by Roadiepig Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 1:18 pm

  28. I give it a B. Quinn’s “Class Envy” ads are playing a little thin with a lot of people.

Comment by Jechislo Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 1:22 pm

  29. As some of you said, this ad spits out false cliches, like “job creator.”

Speaking of demonization, it’s the Kochs who through their politicians and front groups masquerading as news outlets demonize unions and don’t support raising the minimum wage or even a conservative version of universal health insurance, i.e. Obamacare.

I rate this video an F.

    Sincerely,

  30. F. Boilerplate catchphrases that tune out the listener. On TV, that would be a channel changer.

    Comment by Toure's Latte Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 3:08 pm

  31. A grand jury may settle this and say Pat Quinn was among the leading job creators in State History.

    Comment by A guy... Wednesday, Sep 3, 14 @ 3:26 pm

  32. –To state that “consumers are the job creators” and imply the business owners are just vanilla middle man with no real say or risk in what they do is flat out insulting.–

    Who “implied” that, Mr. Strawman?

But the fact remains, if consumers aren’t buying, you’re out of business. That’s not a tough concept, is it?
