Both U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider (D-10th) and his Republican opponent, former U.S. Rep. Robert Dold, have released their 2013 tax returns to the Journal & Topics Newspapers.
So, the ad came down, but you can still listen to it here if you want…

It was the weaker of the two anyway.
Attacking Schneider for not releasing his tax returns is a silly stunt anyway. It isn’t like he is Bernie Madoff.
Since the IRS was exposed as a political player, this charge has lost a lot of oomph. As the IRS scandal unfolds in Washington, using tax returns and the IRS is just a bad idea overall. I believe that demanding a tax return isn’t a call for transparency and better government, in this day and age, it is more like a reminder of how everything has gotten uglier and more political over the past five years.

Other than …it being factually inaccurate and the the missed fact that Dold did things the same…
The only good for Dold is that it wasn’t his Crew rolling this out, otherwise taking an Ad out is obviously really bad, but the direct link is painfully bad.

If you’re not reading it here, you’re not even aware of it. Look for something to be repackaged and rerun. As V-Man stated, it wasn’t that hot to begin with. No one will miss it.

If I were Schneider I would make hay of the fact the ad was pulled and use it against all future Dold/Prosperity Foundation ads.

Candidates publicizing their tax returns is something of a Nixon era, post-Watergate ritual. I am not sure that it even matters these days, at least not to anyone not in the business of politics.

Do tax returns include stipends of each legislator and associated benefits of serving on various committees?
How are “rewards” such as trips to exotic places handled….as expense or income? Now delving into that aspect might make some uncomfortable as likely that is sacred ground. Sure would love to see a tally on all the legislators and “unique” sources of income/rewards for being faithful to the party.

Dold can’t attack Schneider on any actual issues, given that its really a blue district. This nonsense is the only stuff Dold’s got.

Jobs and the economy? Crippling national debt. Independent leadership? International competition? Foreign policy? Transparency and accountability?
These sound like “actual issues” to me Slow Down. It’s Brad that’s grasping for answers as to how hes better than Bob on these issues.

People are accurate to call this 10th district race a fight and a toss-up as most actual political handicappers do. But this statement:

kinda shows that this commenter doesn’t know what he/she’s talking about and is a lot confused on both the history and the present composition of the 10th. Where do people get these crazy ideas about how to run a successful campaign in the 10th?
