Today’s number: 29,228

Posted in:

* Keep in mind that these TV advertising numbers compiled by The Center for Public Integrity go back all the way to January 1st and run through September 13th. But Rauner was bashing Quinn throughout the primary, so that’s why I didn’t take the time to break them out. These totals also don’t include local cable TV buys.

The two sides are pushing thousands of points this week on Chicago TV alone, so fresh numbers would be much higher

RAUNER: 11,900 “mixed ads” - $6.8 million - targeting Pat Quinn, supporting Bruce Rauner

RAUNER: 935 “negative ads” $944,500 - targeting Pat Quinn

RAUNER: 5,547 “positive ads” - $6.5 million - supporting Bruce Rauner

TOTAL RAUNER: 18,382 ads - $14.2 million

QUINN: 3,880 “negative ads” - $3.4 million - targeting Bruce Rauner

QUINN: 1,244 “positive ads” - $2.4 million - supporting Pat Quinn

IL FREEDOM PAC: 5,722 “negative ads” - $4.9 million - targeting Bruce Rauner

TOTAL QUINN/IFP: 10,846 ads - $10.7 million

GRAND TOTAL: 29,228 ads - $24.9 Million

Expect more. Lots and lots more.

  1. I don’t recall any Rauner negative spots against his GOP opponents. His sneaky outside group did those.

I haven’t seen a positive Rauner spot since the shaggin-wagon. Have they dropped that completely?

It’s interesting that Rauner has done so many “mixed” spots whlie Quinn hasn’t done any.

  4. I’ll take half of that in cash…

    To the Post,

If you gave Grimm $1 million in this climate, it wouldn’t make a bit of difference if those numbers continue at those levels through Election Day.

That is perspective; a million, means zero.

  5. Jeez that’s a whole lotta blown cash… And it’s only Sept. 25th.
Time to unplug the tv and go outside till Nov 5.

  6. $850 per ad? Sounds cheap until you realize that each ad needs to be aired about 1000 times before the message sinks in.

  7. This one prompted a double-take.

Quinn has outspent Rauner nearly 2-to-1 on ads? All that “outspent” business seemed like a fundraising gimmick.

And Quinn has run 4 times as many negative ads as Rauner? Wow.

  8. FKA. you might want to do a double, double-take. Not seeing what you’re seeing.

Plus, keep in mind that Rauner’s “mixed” spots are negative on Quinn with Bruce making nice-nice.

  9. “a million, means zero.” Thank you Willy. I can only hope the candiates see your message and safe their money. I am so sick of the ads already! What about the third guy who is running for Gov.? I already like the guy just because he has no ads! So sick of it already!

  11. Rich, have the intern do a correlation analysis of the Rauner neg/pos mix and the Rauner lead to alleged deficit. Stat!
