* Man, it never fails. Wake up late and everything then seems to take twice as long to finish. Sorry about the lack of posts this morning.

So, while I continue trying to catch up, how about a local elections open thread? Let us know what’s going on in your neck of the woods.

  1. lots of Scherer/Mike Bell mail. I hear a lot of Linda Little radio … thankful to not have cable.

Comment by Spliff Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:03 am

  2. Governor commercials on the tv, no yard signs, no mailers, no enthusiasm in my GOP dominated rural county.

Comment by Ducky LaMoore Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:04 am

  3. A lot of Michelle Mussman signs were out early.

Comment by Wumpus Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:07 am

  4. I’m getting buried in an avalanche of mailers from Sam Yingling. Don’t know where the guy gets the money to send all that.

Ironically, probably wouldn’t even know the name of his opponent if it weren’t for all his mailers.

Comment by JWD Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:09 am

  5. No mail on the local legislative races…

Seeing Rauner signs, no Quinn signs.

Comment by OneMan Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:09 am

  6. Centralia - Lots of Democrat signs, none for Quinn.

4th Judicial Circuit judges race is interesting in that Republicans have the chance to have a majority of judges for the first time in more than six decades.

Comment by Downstate Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:12 am

  7. We’re in that weird period when the general election is reaching its apex but the municipal candidates are just starting out.

I live in the 1st Ward (big challenge to Joe Moreno), across from the 32nd Ward (Waguespack seems safe, but I bet Chicago Forward drops a bunch against him), a different block from the 27th (Burnett seems safe, as far as I know), and three blocks from the newly Fioretti-free 2nd Ward (lots and lots and lots of candidates for that open seat).

Lots of canvassing, but hard to tell from afar if it’s petitions for February or GOTV for November. Like most of Chicago, no local races really at play in November, so it’s all about GOTV or the February 2015. Between those wards and the General, a lot of shoe leather being spent.

Comment by VM Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:12 am

  8. Only local signs I see are for a county commissioner. What I do find interesting is that even though I live in a solidly republican area (in fact most local races are unopposed), I’ve seen almost no Rauner signs. I’ve seen plenty of signs for Oberweise and Cross and even for the Republican candidates for Sec of State and Attorney General (but I can’t remember their names!). I don’t know if it means Rauner simply didn’t provide signs or if the Republicans in my area don’t accept him as “one of them.”

    Comment by G'Kar Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:12 am

  9. Have received more mailings and front doorknob drops for IL House 59th district seat than for any other race so far. Tons from both Sente and Munger. People on both sides of the aisle seem to be putting a lot of money and effort on this particular race. Interesting.

Comment by Responsa Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:14 am

  10. There may be no Quinn signs and an abundance of Rauner signs, but let me assure the grassroots are out in force for Quinn, Durbin and the rest of the ticket in identifying their voters and then getting them to the polls. I seriously doubt that Rauner’s operation is anywhere near that sophistication, given that many of the “Obama for America” people are in the drivers seat helping the Democrats.

Comment by MrGrassroots Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:16 am

  11. An odd one–candidate needing to have two-year residency in 17th State Rep. District voted in Wisconsin, just less than two years before Election Day. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/kathy-myalls-vote-illinois-wisconsin

    Comment by 17th District Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:19 am

  12. Jackson County Board races are out there with the yard signs and door to door stuff. Lots of Bost / Enyart. Saw at least 12 ads in an hour last night for or against. Bryant and Kilquist are flooding the air waves.

    Comment by John A Logan Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:19 am

  13. We have the local government employee running as a Republican who wants to cut taxes.

Comment by Bourbonrich Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:20 am

  14. I live way out in the sticks and still have an old fashioned phone land line. Polling survey calls and robocalls every night. Mostly governors race but plenty of Bustos/Schilling banter. I don’t have a TV and am reminded why, since elections seem to be 18 out of 24 month cycles now.

Comment by Tequila Mockingbird Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:22 am

  15. === Ironically, probably wouldn’t even know the name of his opponent if it weren’t for all his mailers. ===

Isn’t that partly why Eric Cantor lost?

Comment by Bill White Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:24 am

  16. i put my mail on hold until nov 5,absente ballot stops the phone calls

Comment by Anonymous Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:24 am

  17. I still haven’t decided if I would rather run for Springfield Mayor or City Council Coordinator.

Rich, you previously mentioned Rauner and Quinn ads running adjacent to one another. I saw the same thing happen in Little-Manar last night.

Comment by Dirty Red Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:28 am

  18. I must live close to VM in the so-called NEW 2nd Ward.
Moreno (1`st Ward) is supporting Frerichs openly. I am not seeing many signs for anyone.

Not many mail box political flyers other than Aldermanic and a lot of visit from those 2nd Ward candidates (I believe there are 5) either still seeking signatures or support.

Comment by Belle Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:29 am

  19. I am just wondering what anonymous is up to today.

    Comment by William j Kelly Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:30 am

  20. I’m still watching the White Sox. Pat Q. is running some anti-Bruce ads (Medicaid fraud), and I saw a positive Durbin spot (student loans).

    Comment by James R. Anderson Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:33 am

  21. One mis-delivered mailer, Democrats passing out lit at the Glenn Ellyn train station, and surprisingly few yard signs considering how accelerated the season has been otherwise.

Comment by MrJM Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:34 am

  22. Its weird, the Govenors race is suppose to be the biggest in the state, but yesterday I drove all around Lake county, the day before I was in McHenry and I live in northern Cook. I saw maybe 2 signs for Rauner and 1 for Quinn. The local people don’t seem that into it.

On the other hand when I was grabbing lunch yesterday in Gurnee, a couple of barbums were talking about local politics and they were talking about the Dold/Schneider race. They were positive on Dold and one of them didn’t even know who “the other guy” was.

Comment by anon Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:34 am

  23. Once again in the 47th Ward there is little visible evidence that an election is approaching. I was hoping Quigley’s opponent might actually spend some money to generate some activity, but no. If it wasn’t for Facebook, I’d never see my representatives.

Maybe the lack of GOP candidates in the city is part of a clever strategy to suppress Chicago’s share of the statewide vote. If so, it’s working. Most of my neighbors don’t seem to know about the election and fewer than a third of registered voters in this area will turn out.

The funny thing is, there are a lot of Republicans in my ward. And they have no one to vote for.

    Comment by 47th Ward Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:34 am

  24. Off topic but just breaking about Roland Burris–

  25. I like the new vote by mail option sent out by the Lake County Vote by Mail Center. It’s sponsored by the Lake County Republican Party.

Comment by Wensicia Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:35 am

  26. You wouldn’t even know an election was coming in LeRoy. Not a single yard sign for anything besides high school football. I get Rauner mail and phone calls occasionally.

Comment by Rayne of Terror Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:43 am

  27. Lots of Brannigan signs, few for Lipinski. Looking forward to Pauliefest at the cell tommorrow.

Comment by overcooked Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:47 am

  28. Spfld tv market. Mostly back and forth bickering. Manar has a positive ad, which is a relief.

In terms of message, i dont know if rauner has run out of steam, is rudderless, or both. He should be closing the deal, but there is no clear message. He has thrown a lot out there, but lately it is a confused mess. I havent seen any personal appearances covered in a long time. There should be impressive rallies by now, if he is really resonanting. Nada. He should have his old van at the rt 66 car show in spfld. 80,000 people

  29. Most of the signs in Springfield seem to be for the Sangamon Co. sheriff’s race. The current sheriff, who’s been in for 20+ years, I think, is retiring and picked his protege to replace him, but after a really nasty Republican primary, the protege lost to someone the retiring sheriff can’t stand. Enter the Democrat, who got on the ballot as a write-in in the primary because he didn’t get petitions turned in on time but since then has really gotten it together. All the disgruntled Republicans who still back the current sheriff and his guy are the wild card. Fun times.

Comment by Commander Norton Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:51 am

  30. There are lots of signs up for the local legislative races but no mailings as of yet. The web sites for the candidates are also vary uninformative with almost no information on there they stand on any of the issues (unfunded pensions, taxes, etc.).

Comment by Hit or Miss Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 10:54 am

  31. I have seen several signs for Rauner, Cross, Oberweis. Not any Quinn aigns except near a union hall or two. This is Republican territory for sure.

Comment by Nearly Normal Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 11:00 am

  32. Most organized wave of signers in DuPage right now look to be Senger, Zaruba (Sherriff), Nybo, Breen, Conroy and Holan up north and Wiley out west. Watching closely, every day they’re methodically moving in one direction or the other. Very efficient effort in looks like. More Winger signs going up in the north section too. Rauner signs have been up for a few weeks in a lot of places. More sporadic before. Now they seem to be filling in a little more each day.

    Comment by A guy... Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 11:07 am

  33. Not much in rural Sangamon county. Macoupin county has signs everywhere for County board (I assume Republican, but it doesn’t say), and maybe an Oberweis sign or two, but that’s about it.

Comment by Skeptic Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 11:15 am

  34. Just saw a new commercial stacking mike bell for allegedly taking a pay increase. I don’t see how this has become a big issue in the district

Comment by Modest proposal Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 11:16 am

  35. In DuPage, I’ve had a lady come to my door last week for Quinn. Other than that, it’s been quiet. No mailers, no robocalls, and (thanks to DVR) no TV ads.

Comment by Jocko Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 11:22 am

  36. Lots of Rauner signs in dupage few for Quinn. And as for you William Kelly I’m working at my full time job , you should try it sometime. Not that you could have ever earned a MD.

Comment by Anonymous Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 11:28 am

  37. I moved to the west burbs over the summer. I don’t think my voter registration has caught up. No mailers, no door hangs, no walkers, nothing. I did get a “Welcome to the neighborhood” mailer from Leader Radogno, which was nice.

At the same time, I think I’ve seen one Rauner sign. No Quinn signs at all. No Lipinski signs, and I have no idea who the Republican challenger is at all.

Comment by ChrisB Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 11:38 am

  38. DeKalb’s City Clerk has resigned: http://dekalbcountyonline.com/2014/09/liz-peerboom-resigns-as-dekalb-city-clerk/

DeKalb’s County Clerk is facing a special prosecutor in ethics complaint: http://www.daily-chronicle.com/2014/09/25/ethics-claim-filed-against-dekalb-county-clerk/adx846j/

  39. Bunch of Republican signs out in front of Papa Passaro’s in Westmont. No mailers yet.

Comment by Bogey Golfer Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 12:50 pm

  40. I’ve been in Chicago, suburban Cook, Dupage, will, kane, and lake over the past week. I don’t think I have seen one green Quinn sign.

My Dem precinct committeeman has a Durbin sign and a couple local candidate signs…. but not Quinn.

Things that make me go “Hmmmm”

Comment by Jerry Hubbard Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 1:09 pm

  41. William Kelly -
Maybe we should get Evelyn Sanguinetti to come down to 47th and King drive for a campaign appearance? Or, better yet, beg her to go on WVON to explain her position on crime and the rehabilitation of people back into society after doing time behind bars…

Comment by low level Friday, Sep 26, 14 @ 2:21 pm

  42. low level Please don’t goat him. Its been a nice Friday with a lot of insightful and intelligent comments. lets not get off track………….

  43. Hearing Kristin Williamson is killing it on doors and phones in the 103rd. And the more people learn about Carol Ammons, the less they like her. Lots of negative mail had to help that perception.
