* I am usually no fan of DCCC TV ads. But this one I kinda like…
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching its first television ad in Illinois’ 10th Congressional District, highlighting how former Congressman Bob Dold is just a reliable Republican who is standing with Republicans who want to raise the retirement age, privatize Social Security and who has opposed a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions, even restricting access to birth control and defunding Planned Parenthood. The ad starts today.
* It’s not the message so much as the style. It jumps right at you…
As a commenter noted this week, it looks like an ad for a new truck.

For Republican reliability, take a look at the 2014 Bob Dold.
With features that include lockstep voting with Republicans, the Tea Party counts on Bob Dold.
Fully loaded with Republican ideas – like raising the retirement age, and privatizing Social Security.
Bob Dold puts the brakes on women’s choice, voting ten times with Republicans against women’s health, restricting access to birth control, defunding Planned Parenthood.

Saw the ad yesterday on TV. Kind of conflicted about it because I found it a bit too slickly produced to be believable. Hope it has its desired effect.

A creative, slickly polished approach to delivering a somewhat tired line of attack.
It stands out, and will either soar or bomb with most. Script is == meh ==, production is == ooh, shiny ==.

I saw it last night and did a double take. It stood out in the clutter. But then i also like Frerich’s, too, because it’s out of the ordinary and kinda nerdy.

Except that it compares him to a doormat, I like it.
Two years ago, I believe it was paint colors.

The ad seems want to to make it look like Dold is the current congressman –not someone else named Schneider who has been in congress for the last two years. Very strange approach. Most voters in the 10th know who their congressman is, I think.

I just saw that Americans for Prosperity (Rauner and IPI affiliate) is having a lame PR event in the 10th CD region in late October.
The Event is described by AFP as follows: “In recognition of Governor Quinn’s tax-hiking legacy, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) Illinois has launched the Leaving the Land of Lincoln Tour featuring the Quinn Moving Company truck. We are taking the “Quinn Moving Company” truck all over the state to highlight the costs of Governor Quinn’s policies on our economy…Our tour may cause some laughs at the Governor’s expense, but his policies are no joking matter”.
Betchya Schneider is loving this and Bob Dold is crying!
Maybe someone should tell AFP that Dold, in part, lost his last election due to the “guilty by association – Walsh/Tea Party ” label that Schneider tagged him with then and NOW!
WOW – even when they try to coordinate they can’t get it right.

What they couldn’t afford Dennis Leary to narrate it? (He narrates the Truck commercials)
Some lawyer at Ford is definitely looking at this. Also, is there really a pickup truck audience on the North Shore that I am not aware of? Perhaps an Audi/BMW/Mercedes riff would’ve been more appealing.

Dold used to be a Congressman so I don’t think it’s all that deceiving to reference his voting record.
Second, I wouldn’t count on most people knowing who their Congressman is.

Quite a few anti-Dold commercials the past week, outpacing anti-Schneider commercials. The door-mat pieces are kinda cheesy, but make a nice contrast between candidate positions.

Saw this ad 2 or 3 times during last nights Blackhawks game. Slick ad. But not sure it was the best use of DCCC money when I was watching the game from Central IL.

Dold also has a new one out with Mark Kirk, in which they both tout their “moderate” credentials while drinking coffee.
It’s still 2014 and Kirk is already campaigning.

I agree, needed the voiceover guy with his voice coming out of his toenails, but I thought it was a refreshingly different ad. No smarmy piano, no grainy B&W pictures of the scowling opponent, none of the usual cliches…
“Second, I wouldn’t count on most people knowing who their Congressman is.” I think the number of people who know who their Senators are would be shockingly low.

Great spot.
Humor is hard to pull off, so when it works it’s a home run.
Schneider is unorthodox; what other incumbent in a tight race anywhere is so thoroughly identifying himself and his opponent by party affiliation?
