* Lots of folks thought there would a huge under-vote in the governor’s race. It was just so nasty, so mean, so devoid of heart and spirit. People would just skip over it.
But, guess what? With 99.5 percent of the votes counted, more people voted in the governor’s race than in any other statewide contest…
US Senate - 3,439,117
Governor - 3,464,622
AG - 3,442,333
SOS - 3,454,120
Comptroller - 3,423,838
Treasurer - 3,370,406

Vote for governor in 2010–3,729,990
There’s a big story. All the big bucks. All the TV commercials, and all the vaunted GOTV operations on both sides and we’re a quarter million votes below 2010. I know this year’s number will go up some, but it still will probably be 200k less than 4 years ago.

I wonder what is going to happen with the Chicago voters who showed up but the polling places were un-manned due to the fake robo-calls? Not everyone has the type of schedule that would enable them to show up a second time.

As bad as the choices were, I can’t imagine making the effort to go vote and then not voting for the top spot.
That being said, I did consider under-voting for Treasurer, on the basis that I didn’t like either candidate and I also don’t think the office matters much.
I under-voted on the constitutional and advisory matters. None of them were significant enough to be on the ballot. A “no” indicate that the ballot questions had some merit.
One last note — for all the talk of people loving JBT, her margin was shockingly narrow against a very weak opponent. In four years, it may be time for her to look for a new line of work.

Not a voting expert or behavioral scientist but my experience is that people moving through a buffet line scoop something from every steam tray.
Ballot is the same deal.

More a General Election “under-vote”, than one specifically for governor.

Under-voting is the refuge for those of us who don’t want to become political road kill in public during nasty, negative elections.
The Australian ballot is a life-saver, isn’t it?

Every camp has some people who just come out to vote for them. Not many but enough to cause people to skip votes in other races. Frerichs is probably a beneficiary of some conservative Obie voters and Rauner fanatics that didn’t bother to go down and vote for Cross.

Wow, that SOS number is kind of shocking. I know we always joke about how much people like Jesse White - but, dang, people REALLY like Jesse White. That people made a choice to vote in that race when they didn’t need to says so much.

Yeah, I wouldn’t be out thanking anyone for my election while my opponent is still asserting that I may not have won. Seems like the wiser move, truly.

I think walker is one to something. I talked to a couple of friends in southern Illinois who told me they planned on undervoting the governor, but when the weather became bad they just decided to undervote the entire election and stay home.

I was watching the returns early last night at one victory party, expecting to see an undervote. It surprised the heck out of me that it never showed up. Lots of people told me they were skipping the Gov. race. Guess they changed their minds and cast a vote against one side or the other.

When the results are final I’ll be interested in the total number of voters vs. the number of votes for Governor in 2010 and 2014.
